assalamu alaikum

i have a niece and we thought that it was wrong to give her things with pictures of faces on it and we thought it was wrong to give her a doll or teddy. is it?

As far as I know if your niece is younger than puberty then dolls and teddies are okay. The wife of Muhammad,  [saw],  Aishah, used to play with dolls and he used to get much amusement out of watching her.
In fact I read one hadith where he came in and picked up a strange looking creature made out of cloth. He asked her what it was and she said it was a horse, and then he asked her what the flaps on each side of it were, and she said they were his wings. And he answered "A horse with wings??" and laughed and laughed.. :)

About the pictures.. I'm not too sure... maybe someone with more knowledge can answer this....
