Salam I have a qs. If you are really praying for something for a long time and you are not getting it , does it mean that it is not good for you / Allah swt doesn’t want it for you and you should stop praying for it ? Or should you keep on trying and praying for it forever or till you get it ? Thanks Masalam |

I'm not sure if I should answer this question, but I think that God helps those who help themselves, If you work for something and deserve it, you'll get it. |

[slm] Chris it's not just about material acquisitions. If you are praying that you'll meet your future spouse soon, for example. Or if you are praying that you will get the strength to tell your parents you have become a Muslim... for example.... Or praying that you will have more patience and tolerance, or praying that your health, or that of someone else's will be improved.. and soon... Well no matter how hard you "work", these are things that lie in the hand of Allah and no one else. wasalaam eleanor :-* |

Assalamu'alaikum :-) Dear Brother/ Sister
If you are really praying for something for a long time and you are not getting it , does it mean that it is not good for you / Allah SubHana Wa Ta`ala doesn’t want it for you and you should stop praying for it ? Or should you keep on trying and praying for it forever or till you get it ?
Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “The person’s supplication will be answered unless he asks for sin or severing the ties of kinship, except if the person is hasty.” Then the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) was asked about hastiness. So the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) described it as, “The person says, ‘I asked, and I have not seen the answer.’ Then he leaves dua.” (Sahih Muslim) Some ulama interpret that it is not haste should a person ask for a speedy answer. There are a lot of things in this world that we want. But Allah will give it in the best of times, and when we need it, inshaAllah. Perhaps, there is something that is better if one is to wait a while longer, inshaALlah. Afterall, doesn't the best comes to those who wait patiently? :) Do continue with your du'as, never cease in making them... and remain patient, for Allah loves His servants who keeps on asking Him and He has promised that He is with those who are patient. And who else can be better at our side but Allah? Akhi/ Ukhti, there is a hadith that helps calm myself... I can't find the exact hadith, but this is th gist of it. Please correct me, should I say it wrongly, inshaAllah. Or if anyone found the hadith, please help post it up. A man was admitted to Paradise, he saw so many rewards for him. And he wondered, what he has done to deserve all of it. When he asked ALlah about it. Allah said that these rewards are for all of the things which he has asked for, but was not received in dunya. How Bounteous and Merciful Allah is... that He rewards us for our patience, and would give us ALL that we ask for.. if not in this world, then, in the next inshaAllah. And it is life in the hereafter that is the most enduring one and what matters most. What is important for us, is that we keep on trusting Him, and never lose it. Be confident that He listens to you and will give it to you, inshaAllah. Never lose hope in Allah, even if it hurts so much that we cry everytime, for it. He listens and gives. He always does.... Just trust Him :) The Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said, “Ask Allah with certainty that He will answer your prayers, and know that Allah will not accept the supplication from an absent heart.” (Hasan, At-Tirmidhi) Take care Jazakallahu khairan :-) wassalam |

Du’aa’ is a powerful weapon for those who are able to use it, so pray to Allaah and be certain that Allaah will respond, and seek the means of having your du’aa’ accepted, such as eating and drinking only things which are good (halaal), and choosing the good times to make du’aa’. Beware of seeking a speedy response, for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The du’aa’ of any one of you will be answered so long as he does not seek to hasten it, and does not say, ‘I made du’aa’ but I had no answer.’” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5865; Muslim, 2735, from the hadeeth of Abu Hurayrah). Know that a person’s du’aa’ is never wasted, and it benefits him in all situations, as it says in the hadeeth which was narrated by al-Tirmidhi from Abu Hurayrah, who said: “The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: ‘There is no man who prays to Allaah and makes du’aa’ to Him, and does not receive a response. Either it will be hastened for him in this world, or it will be stored up for him in the Hereafter, so long as he does not pray for something sinful, or to cut the ties of kinship, or seek a speedy response.’ They said, ‘O Messenger of Allaah, what does seeking a speedy response mean?’ He said, ‘Saying, “I prayed to my Lord and He did not answer me.”’” (Al-Tirmidhi, 3859; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Tirmidhi, 852). |

[slm] I have found that sometimes what we interpret as no answer from Allah (swt) is actually a "NO" :( answer. That is always harder to accept, and we, in our humanness(sic), have seldom liked being told "NO". Acceptance of a decision is part of our submission to our Creator, Allah(swt), even if we don't like the answer. This is just my opinion. [wlm] :-) Laila |

Question: For over ten years I prayed to Allah now and then to provide me with X. However, none of that has occurred and this is what Allah has willed and there is no one to repel His Decree. My question is this: I stopped making that du'a recently, not out of despair of being answered by Allah but because I began to think that that matter was not what was best for me, given that Allah did not respond to my prayer. I decided to stop making that du'a because Allah is more knowledgeable of what would benefit me, regardless of my great desire and hope to have my prayer answered. What is obligatory upon me in this position? Shall I continue making that supplication or should I be satisfied that such a matter is not what is best for me and simply stop making that prayer? Response: It is mentioned in the Hadith that the servant's prayer is responded to as long as he is not hasty. Hastiness has been explained as the response being slow in coming so the person gives up and stops making the dua. He then says, "I prayed and prayed but I was not responded to." Allah may delay the response to a prayer for some reasons, general or specific. In a Hadith, it is stated that the supplicant receives one of three things from Allah: Either Allah responds to the dua and gives the person what he asks, or Allah puts something in store for him for the Hereafter or Allah keeps some harm from coming to him by His Decree. Therefore, do not be hasty but continue in making that supplication, even if for a number of years... Shaikh ibn Jibreen Some Verdicts Pertaining to Supplications http://www.witness-pioneer.org/vil/hadeeth/riyad/16/chap252.htm 1499. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH), "The supplication of every one of you will be granted if he does not get impatient and say (for example): `I supplicated my Rubb but my prayer has not been granted'.'' [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]. The narration of Muslim is: "The supplication of a slave continues to be granted as long as he does not supplicate for a sinful thing or for something that would cut off the ties of kinship and he does not grow impatient.'' It was said: "O Messenger of Allah! What does growing impatient mean?'' He (PBUH) said, "It is one's saying: `I supplicated again and again but I do not think that my prayer will be answered.' Then he becomes frustrated (in such circumstances) and gives up supplication altogether.'' Commentary: We learn from this Hadith that one should continue beseeching Allah without ever thinking that in spite of praying for a long time, his prayer has not been granted. One should never allow frustration to overcome in his mind. If a person's supplication is not granted for a long time, there would be certainly some good for him in that delay the reason of which is known to Allah Alone. It is, therefore, essential that he should never cease to pray whether his prayer is granted or not. Persistence in prayer is certainly beneficial to him. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/7377/s9.htm Fiqh-us-Sunnah on Supplications http://members.tripod.com/ahya/eng/oson.html The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) encouraged the Muslims to always invoke Allah in supplications, he said: "No Muslim will perform a Du'aa that neither entails a sin, not cutting the relations of the womb, but Allah will give him (or her) one of three: He will either give him what he asks for sooner, or He will keep it for him for the Last Life, or He will avert harm that is equal in proportion from touching him." They (the companions (radhiallahu anhu)) said: "We will then perform it much." He (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) said: "Allah is even more (Gracious, Generous, Kind etc.)." [Al-Mishkat] |

[slm] I have been working in the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia for the past 19 years. Long before I became a grandfather :-/, I used to regularly pray Allah Almighty to grant me an opportunity to work in the Western Region, choosing the most appropriate timings for supplication and following it up with sending my CVs to various companies in that region. To use the cricketing parlance ;D, I am now 56 not out, and Insha Allah, if I continue with the innings until the first week of June, I will be 57 not out. I now know that I do not stand any chance of obtaining a suitable employment outside the place where I am employed. I have discontinued with this particular Du'a, not because I lost hope in Allah Almighty's Mercy, but because I thought that I am destined to remain where I am now. I never asked Allah Almighty to hasten the answering of my supplication nor did I complain to Him: "I made Du'a, my Lord, but You did not respond." Insha Allah, I hope to receive rewards from Him for the un-answered prayer in the Hereafter. Like everyone else, I also have a multitude of other needs for the accomplishment of which I always pray Him. Abu_Atheek (ex-Haniff with 2f's) |

[slm] I don't know why are you asking that... :o I think if you really believe in Allah, then you will continue praying for everything. Allah will always listen. If that something you are asking is not yet come...then maybe it's not good for you. Just keep praying !! :) |
