Salaams All
I am a  :-) from Australia, currently in my last year of Uni, (college).  I've been a "lurker" for a while now, verging on becoming an addict   ;D.  Just thought i'd make my presence known.  Its such a wonderful board.  Subhanallah, i think its grand how everyone here is so friendly and helpful.  Keep it up guys!  I also absolutely love your smileys! They're so cool!!!

I've got a lot more to say, but as it's in relation to the current debate on education, i'll just hop over there and put in my "two cents worth".

welcome  :-) good to see someone else from this end of the planet ;D  So how is the community in Oz?? last time I was over I noticed too many divisions along cultural/ethnic lines... inshaAllah that will decrease.

Have you had a chance to attend the Train the Trainers course?  Alhamdulillah there are a lot of dedicated  ;-) and  :-) from Oz involved with it.

Hey all the best for your final year! make the most of it and get involved with the MSA on campus :)

wasalaam,
Ahmed (the NZ  ;-))

Salaams!
Thanks for the warm welcome!  :)
Things over here are pretty good.  Its the second week of uni, the  :-) and  ;-) at the msa are starting to get the activities rolling for the year. We have the usual gatherings every so often and in Spring (september) we have a youth camp- which i think is great. I do think that we need to organise more activities, especially for teenagers.  So many of them are kept in their own little cultural/ethnic cliques and don't know how much in common that they have.   The camp is really good for reaching out beyond those boundaries.  As for the rest of the community, yes we do have some trouble with getting people from various ethnic/cultural communities to work together, but those people are few in number.   You know what, after the whole burning of the Kuraby mosque in Brisbane and the whole backlash of September Eleven on the muslim community; i've found that people are beginning to put aside their differences and work together more than they used to.  Which is great, considering sometimes how disorganised it can be.

Yes i have had the chance to do the "Train the Trainers" course.  We had one really short, rushed course last year over a weekend. Inshaallah we'll be having another one on the Easter Break that goes for five days.  Looking forward to it.  Its an excellent program and for those of you who don't have any idea what it is, its a short course that helps Muslims (especially those actively involved in the community) understand Islam better; it discusses Islamic issues that we may not have understood ourselves and helps us to increase our knowledge so that we may explain it better to people that approach us about Islam.   The people who organise it are so cool and that really helps.

Anyways.  Thats what life's like over here, for me anyway.  Hope everything is fine and dandy where you all are.

Wassalaams

[slm],

I gotta say *TTC ROCKS!* We got four trainers heading over from Oz for Easter weekend too- 5-day course on Part 2  ;D  I'm catching up on Part 1 today.

I've been told the course started in Nigeria, is it happening anywhere else other than NZ and Oz?

Ahmed
