Why did you choose your name?

[slm] So why did you pick the name you did?  I'm sure many of us our curious about a lot of names, i.e. Abu Hamza, Jannah, chakooo, lightningatnite, flyboy, shadow493, etc.

Assalamualaikum Brother Bhaloo since you are asking ....i will bore you with reasons=) My user name is Wired-up ...not coz I am a complicated person ...but coz i am quite dopey .When i had to choose a screen name i started thinking VERY hard but nufin came to mind=(.. Then ...i saw all these  WIRES .....coming out  from the monitor ,the CPU ,mouse ,speakers,printer .Sheesh they were everywhere !All over the place!That's when the name Wired-up struck me:-[ I hope it 's a bit clear for you now .brother bhaloo.. [slm] I choose to use my real name, Kathy, to keep me honest and real. I figured, since my honor is so important to me, that by using my real name I wouldn't be so quick to say anything improper. As Kashif implied, if I have the chance to meet any of you- I want to! I would hate to be sitting next to a sister Hafiza and the next day find out it was Barr! Once a friend of mine went to a seminar in Albany. Laughingly she said that  once the women found out she was from Binghamton- they asked- " Do you know Kathy? and is she real?" :-)

assalamu alaikum, the reason i chose zomorrod has been explained elsewhere.  I used to use my real name on the older boards- but I dunno, I became weary of others knowing too much about me.  Not that I posted that much anyway, but still, I became concsious of others' watchful eyes, after having recieved few strange mails and IMs.   But of course bhaloo used his detective skills and found out that I am from canada - [how sneaky!] and some may have already figured who I am (or extorted the info from me  ;) ) but as long as lurkers don't get that, I am fine, insha'Allah.  Plus, zomorrud has a nice ring to it, and certainly more unique than my real name! wassalam

I mean you never know when your up In Yorkshire, my town and someone might just say from the board you know that Bro Hanif and you could turn around and say yeah I know em....its a very small world believe me. [slm] My real name is Betul and it has quite a number of meanings.  I chose Aabidah b/c it's an awesome name MashaAllah and b/c it describes who I am and want to be more of InshaAllah.  'Aabidah means 'worshipper'. Alhamdulillah i am an 'aabid of Allah-u SubhanaHu Wata'ala and will work at trying to be a better one InshaAllah.   Well, there's the whole story :) I forgot what Betul means, InshaAllah later when i remember... :-* :-* [wlm] Betul

Assalamu'alaikum! :) Aaahhhh!!! Someone! Mods! help! There's a name too beautiful to be on the board! And it starts with H!!!! (and no, it's not Hanif!  :P) Edit! Edit! THere goes my anonymity! There goes the mysterious and enigmatic, inscrutable and mystifying ... Barr.....  :-* Why Barr? It's genderless. Most people think I'm a Brother  ;) and I do like to keep my gender a mystery... but not for this board I guess... been here too long to keep one's gender a secret :) Plus, I like short, easy to pronounce names. Something that you don't have to roll your tounges for (well, unless you're Americans ;)) or be nasal or throaty abt. Plus, it sounds cool and has a nice ring to it... And most of all, a beautiful meaning ... It's one of Allah's 99 beautiful names... Al-Barr which means... The Source of All Goodness. So, no. I wasn't inspired by Cadbury when I chose this name :) OK! Yabedi' Yabedi' that's all folks  8) WAssalam :-)

[slm],   I picked Mehak as my user name bcuz once ,a loong time ago(in high school  8)),I was really interested in urdu poetry and tried my hand on a few ghazlas.I had Mehak as my takhallus. Although ,I didnt continue that hobby of mine but I still love poetry. And I guess, bcuz of that I still had my takhallus somewhere in the back of my mind. :-* [wlm]

Well, I chose the name 'cuz theres a hadith: The Prophet Muhammad (saw) said: [i]"Islam came as something strange, and will return in the future as something strange. So blessed are the strangers." [slm] I choose my nickname from one of my favorite book series - Clan of the Cavebear (Earth's Children Series) I have since found out that this name is a very popular turkish name, which is a very nice added bonus:)  I have been using this name for almost 5 year now!! [slm] Salik (Traveller) derives from suluk (travel), meaning to proceed along, the allusion being to the spiritual journey, meaning one's seeking knowledge of the rules of religion with seriousness and effort, to thereby reach Allah Most High and be saved from perdition. Ok ok those are not my words, the are of Ahmed ibn Naqib al-Misri translated by Nuh Ha Mim Keller. Narrated Mujahid: 'Abdullah bin 'Umar said, "Allah's Apostle took hold of my shoulder and said, 'Be in this world as if you were a stranger or a traveler." The sub-narrator added: Ibn 'Umar used to say, "If you survive till the evening, do not expect to be alive in the morning, and if you survive till the morning, do not expect to be alive in the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and (take) from your life for your death."  -- Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 76, Number 425 Prophet  [saw] is also reported to have said "Be in this world as if you are a traveller, a passerby, with your clothes and shoes full of dust. Sometimes you sit under the shade of a tree, sometimes you walk in the desert. Be always a passerby, for this is not home." Sorry I couldn't find the reference to this hadith I do not know where it's reported.

I'm with Julie on this one.  I didn't really think about it.  When I was prompted for a user name I just typed in my name.  Maybe I should say then that I didn't choose my name -- my parents did!  ;)   Tracy,  that series is also one of my favorites.  I am so glad the next book is finally coming out later this Spring.  Ayla has been pregnant way too long.   :D Peace, Dawn

On the old board I was [color=Green]Muslima Kanadiyya[/color], which is just a transliteration of the Arabic for 'A Canadian Muslimah'.  That name was a bit of an inside joke because a lot of Muslims exclaim, "But you're Canadian!" when I first meet them.  Hmm, I guess even some Muslims think that you have to have darker skin to believe the message of rasul illah  [saw].  ::) I chose my real name this time because I feel a little less shy with you guys now, and like Kathy said, it keeps me honest. wassalam. Assalam Alaikum, I chose talib_ilm because of a hadith of the prophet  [saw] that I heard. The hadith goes like this: "The whole world is cursed except the scholars, the student of knowledge (talibul ilm), and everything that leads to it. " The name is a constant reminder for me to always keep the goal in focus. InshaAllah the more I increase my Knowledge the more I grow in the fear of my Lord.

[slm]Ok the naeem is   a nick name given to me at a MYNA camp along time ago.  I use to do over-night security for sister's week long camps.  While everyone  is sleep I had to stay up the whole night and make sure the boogie man didn't invade the camp grounds.  Well during the day they would bring me my meals, I stayed like in another camp group during the day.  Well one day my meal was really late so I went to go check up on them and see when I was gonna get some vitles(food).  So I heard them as I approached the mess hall " Did someone feed The Naeem". My real name is naeem.  So it started to stick, "Where's The Naeem, Someone get The Naeem, Here comes the boogie man, a spider, stray dog, Hell's Angel Motorcyclist, <enter icky digusting thing here>,  we need The Naeem". I was mad at first but it was not malicious.  So I use it now.  Go figure  ;-)

asalaamu alaikum, so why flyboy_nz?  well  ::) since I when I was young I went through all these phases of what I wanted to be.....  "when I grow up I want to be a doctor... hmm no, a fireman!... hmm no, a truck driver... hmm no, ......" and when I was 7 I decided I wanted to be a pilot.. and so grew my love of all things aviation... i did a bit of flight training back in highschool and have flown solo but i gave it up when i started uni. The 'nz' stands for New Zealand... and thats where i am  :) wasalaam, Ahmed

[slm] I was [font=Verdana][color=Maroon]Solehah[/color][/font] in the old board.  Solehah means the good one and that was actually a nickname given to me by my friends when I used to play truant instead of attending madrasah.  But more importantly, Solehah is the second name of my daughter  :-* Why [glow=red,2,300]UmmWafi[/glow] ? Uhh...duh...my first born is named Wafi so I am his..emm..mom ? Heh heh I don't quite fancy my real name though  ::)

[/quote] :-[ i KNEW that word was familiar! youre a genius, mf :) i chose my nick to be pakiprncess cuz although my real name is incredibly beautiful, it is just as unique :( and like others, i like the mystery involved with the madina my friend from hs started calling me pakiprncess in 9th grade... he said that the fact that i am pakistani is obvious in everything i do (we had to design a kite for geometry and i brought a green one from home that my dad had got from pakistan that summer...) and the prncess part, well thats kinda a goof-up by yours truly...my friends call me princess cuz they say im spoiled enough to be one (its not my fault my parents love me...who wouldnt? hehe) but when i was registering a screen name on aol, i mistyped and ended up as prncess...i guess that tells you a lil bit about me too  ::)
