yes I remember the picture... I think we used to even have that issue in our house for a long time.

I think it must be the real person.. they matched the iris. More importantly, the sister said so :-)

Some of the things she said are really awesome (I wrote this long post quoting her, but I lost it somehow).  At nationalgeographics.com they have more info... after reading all that, I have a lot of respect for her, Sherbat Gula.

Her whole story really hits home how much a picture can do. Subhanallah.

SubhanAllah just looking at her face tells you how much she has suffered during her lifetime.  It is a life that I cannot even begin to imagine.  It makes all of my problems seem incredibly small in comparison.

Insha'Allah we, Muslims, will unite and help our brothers and sisters around the world.

I first saw the pic a few years ago and so intense was her frightful yet beautiful stare that you couldn't help but wonder who she was. It was one of the most captivating and startling pictures I've ever seen and its amazing they've actually found her again. Shes only about 30 but looks so much older, a testament to what war and hardship can do to someone. You can only see pain, sorrow, hardship and a will to survive.

'Those eyes' almost certainly have an astounding story behind them, one that mirrors the plight of Afghan women as a whole and one that must bring forth to light how blessed we are, the luxuries we live in yet still complain, whilst others without basic amneties are facing a daily struggle to survive.
