The Role of an Imam

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-) Okay I need some help here so I want to pick everyone's brains. I'm currently helping out my Masjid to document a job description for our Imams. So my question is this: What do you think should be the role and responsibilities of the Imam in a Masjid? I'm just using this as a brainstorming exercise so *any* points you have will be most useful. Jazakhallah khair Br Khalid

assalamu alaikum these are some of the responsibilities of the imam I know personally, in no particular order: [list][*]deliver Jumah khutbah (too obvious, I know) [*]lead the 'night' prayers at least (i.e. fajr, maghrib, ishaa)and in ramadan, taraweeh as well [*]give halaqaas/khatiras [*]perform marriage contracts and dissolve them if khul3 is requested by the wife [*]appoint majlis ash-shurah (different from board) [*]represent his mosque and community in any inter-faith dialogues, or media interviews [*]advise the masjid board and masjid president [*]answer inquiries from the congregation [*]arbitrate at inter-/intra-community conflicts [*]ensure a suitable islamic educational program available in the mosque for men, women and youth [*] [*] [*][/list]
