I was told a while back by a muslim brother who said that in an islaamic state, if you see a non-muslim walking down the street, you have a right to physically push him out the way as a sign of your dislike of him not being muslim.

apparently, he claimed thier was Sahih Hadith to back this up, but i cannot find it! Has anyone else heard anything similar? Does anyone know the hadith that this refers to?

I asked my mom about this and she said that it's not true. She even gave an example that contradicted this.

There was a woman who used to throw stones at Rasulullah  [saw] everyday.  One day she didn't throw stones at him and Rasulullah  [saw] sent some sahabi's to check on her, b/c she hadn't thrown stones.  They did and came back and told Rasulullah  [saw] that she was sick. So he,  [saw] went to visit her and she became embraced Islam after that, Alhamdulillah.

So, i don't think what that brother told you is correct.  InshaAllah I'll check on it more.

I don't know about any hadith etc. but if possible, you can read "Jews of Islam", you will get to know in detail as far as the treatment of dhimmis in the past Khilafah states (Ottoman esp.) is concerned.

Goodness I certainly hope this is not true   :(
And from what I am learning about Mohammed
Doesn't sound like anything that he would condone or suggest.

Anyone have any Quran verses to support or discredit such an act?

Please??????????????????

Brother Mujaahid, you don't need to find the hadeeth, the one who made such a claim does.  He has to provide a daleel for such a ridiculous statemtent.  In the Qur'an 60:8 (translation of the meaning): Allah does not forbid you  from those who do not fight you because of religion and do not expel you from your homes-from being righteous toward them and acting justly toward them.  Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.

Also in 3:150 So by mercy from Allah [O Mohammed], you were lenient with them.  And if you had been rude [in speech] and harsh in heart, they would have disbanded from about you.

If we followed the advice that you were told, who in the world would consider Islam as the just and wonderful religion that it is?  What kind of example would we be setting?

Assalaam Alaikum

Interesting question......there has been much discussion about muslims living in non muslim societies after September 11.

Different views have come forward, some say we can live in the west, other say we need to move back "home".

One issue we need to highlight to the west is how Islam deals with non muslims. Looking back at our history we find that non muslims have enjoyed the protection of Islam and the Islamic state for hundreds of years. From India to Spain the non muslims lived under the Islamic State and enjoyed the same rights as the muslims. The only condition was that they had to pay the Jizya, which is a form of tax that the male non muslims who are able to work have to pay. Their  rights are protected and they are know as the protected citizens of the Khilafah (Ahl Dhimmi). The prophet Muhammed (saws) said in a hadith "whosoever harms a dhimmi (protected citizen) it is as if he has harmed me ".

From this it is clear that the khilafah is not only for Muslims, but its citizens include the non muslims. Lets us pray that the Khilafah returns soon so that mankind can once again live under the laws of Allah (swt) in peace and harmony unlike the situation today.

as salaamu alaykum,

No, that is completely untrue.  A dhimmi [a non-Muslim under the sanctity of an Islamic state] is entitled to protection from abuse.

[color=black]Whoever hurts a dhimmi, I am his adversary, and I shall be an adversary to him on the Day of Resurrection. [/color]
[Reported by al-Khatib on good authority]

[color=black]On the Day of Resurrection I shall dispute with anyone who oppresses a person from among the People of the Covenant (ie, a dhimmi), or infringes on his right, or puts a responsibility on him which is beyond his strength, or takes something from him against his will. [/color]
