My dad suffers from angina, his had a bypass and couple of other things, may Allah make it easy for him.

The sad thing is, of all the people I know where I live, the greatest disease we have is heart disease i.e. Asians or desi. And those who love to have curry for breakfast, lunch and evening meal. There is so much cholestrol in those currys that its scary.

May Allah make it easy on your family and to those who are in the same condition.

I'm sorry to hear about this news.  Its a very difficult thing to deal with.  My father had a massive heart attack a few years back, and through a massive change in his diet and exercise he was able to really turn things around, though he had to have a pace maker put in 3 months ago.

May Allah (SWT) cure him quickly and ease your family's suffering during this most difficult time.

I am very sad to hear of your father's illness. We pray Allah Almighty to grant him a speedy recovery, and to endow you and your family with the courage to face this difficult time.

When the Prophet  [saw] visited any patient, he used to say to him: "Do not worry. This serves to purge you, God willing." (Related by Al-Bukhari).

"Whatever befalls a believer of hardship or suffering, worry, grief, harm or other adversity, even a thorn that pierces his skin, will ensure the forgiveness of some of his sins." (Related by Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

God says: "We shall certainly test your steadfastness with a certain degree of fear and hunger, and with diminution of wealth, lives and crops. But give good news to those who persevere; who endure adversity and misfortune, saying, "To God we belong, and to Him we shall return." Their Lord sends His blessings and mercy upon them, and they shall be rightly guided." (2:155-157)

Assalaamu 'alaikum wa rahmatullah

Hope you're father is feeling better, insha'Allah, and may Allah give you all patience and shifa.

I was researching a bit on this a few weeks ago, since heart disease is pretty much epidemic now.  I don't know why I'm sharing this since there may or may not be medical proof for the logic, but my mother has this thing, about drinking tea (or anything hot) after an "oily" meal (altho she doesn't drink very much or use as much oil as the typical desi).  She likens it to washing greasy dishes with hot water, somehow her stomach is being cleaned out, better than with say a cold drink.   In a round about way (even if we have enzymes and whole processes in place to break down fatty acids and whatnot), this may make some sense.

Anyhow, here are some tidbits I've found.  Someone else had also found the medical benefits of honey and cinnamon in the past, if I recall:

http://www.themuslimwoman.com/herhealth/honeyandcinnamon.htm

Heart Diseases
Make a paste of honey and cinnamon powder, apply on bread instead of jelly and jam and eat it regularly for breakfast.
It reduces the cholesterol in the arteries and saves the patient from heart attack. Also those who have already had an attack, if they do this process daily, are kept miles away from the next attack. Regular use of the above process relieves loss of breath and strengthens the heart beat. In America and Canada, various nursing homes have treated patients successfully and have found that due to the increasing age the arteries and veins which lose their flexibility and get clogged are revitalized.

http://www.muslims.net/English/Science/2002/01/article8.shtml

From green tea to black tea, this July's issue of Circulation included a study that focused on the reverse effect it has on coronary heart disease. Black tea reduced the risk of heart attack and stroke in the participants. Joseph Vita, professor of medicine at Boston University's School of Medicine and author of the study, researched 66 people with heart disease who have abnormal blood vessel function to begin with. They were asked to drink 4 cups of black tea or 4 cups of water daily for 4 weeks. Dr. Vita speculated that the flavonoids in tea are what would help the artery walls stay healthy (Zamora, p.1, 2).

Some people still resist drinking black or green tea because of the caffeine content. However, here are three herbal and naturally decaffeinated teas you might want to try:

Chamomile - Native to Europe, the flower is good for insomnia and tension. Infuse in 1 cup of boiling water and if desired sweeten with honey. For digestive problems, drink after meals. A strong infusion should be used as a mouthwash for gingivitis (inflammation of the gums surrounding the neck of the tooth).

Echinacea - The root or the cone of a Native American plant that acts as an immune booster shortening the duration of colds. Add 2 teaspoons of dried echinacea to a cup of water and infuse for 15 minutes then strain. For effectiveness against bacterial and viral attacks use, 1-2 teaspoons of the root in one cup of water and bring to the boil slowly, then let it simmer for 10-15 minutes. Drink 3 times daily.

Lemon Balm - Native to the Middle East the dried aerial parts or the fresh leaves are used. It is good for tension and depression, headaches and colds. It has a sedative effect. Infuse fresh leaves in boiling water. It has a tonic effect on the heart and circulatory system causing dilation of the peripheral vessels thus lowering blood pressure. For this, infuse 2-3 teaspoons of dried lemon balm in a cup of boiling water or 4-6 fresh leaves for 10 - 15 minutes then cover until ready to drink (Cohen p.1, 2 & Hoffman p. 171,184, 191).

http://www.muslims.net/english/Science/2001/03/article2.shtml

Recent studies also show that fruits and vegetables can lower homocysteine. Associate professor Lawrence J. Appel of Medicine at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD (U.S.) says, "To get these positive benefits, it's not enough to eat just an occasional fruit or vegetable while consuming a high-fat diet." In his 3-month study, 118 healthy adults ate a well-balanced diet called 'Dietary Approaches To Stop Hypertension' (DASH). There was a significant drop in homocysteine levels with a 7% to 9% reduction in the risk of heart attack. The diet for the first week was low in fruits, vegetables and dairy products but relatively high in fats. Then, for eight weeks, each participant was either randomly assigned a meal plan that added fruits and vegetables to week one's diet or the DASH meal plan. The DASH diet lowered homocysteine by 0.32% micromoles per liter while the typical American diet (week 1) raised the level by 0.46 micromoles per liter.

Important in the fight against cardiovascular disease are phytochemicals - a term used to encompass thousands of compounds like caratenoids, flavanoids and iso-flavanoids. However, many phytochemicals have not yet been identified; hence, the importance in eating whole fruits and vegetables as opposed to taking supplements. The USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tuft's University in Boston identifies strawberries, blueberries, spinach, and kale in particular as excellent sources as these are high in antioxidants, which play an important role in fighting cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

Thanx you guys for all your duas.. I think they worked!! Alhamdulllah my father is so much better now.Talking and eating a bit.  They are still deciding on whether to operate or not, but for now alhamdulllah. He scared us silly I think. His heart stopped twice after he got to the hospital and my brother had to watch as they used those ER shock things to get his heartbeat to go again. He was saying how no one knew how that electricity of life works.. It's just there, or taken away as Allah wills. My father is 51, I just want him to be there at our weddings, to see a first grandchild...I don't know.

Anyway jazakamullahu khairan..
