| [slm] I have read somewhere a post somewhere abt translation of the Quran and someone mentioned Maududi's translation being good for interested non Muslims cos he has many notes and commentaries. I have tried to find that post but failed. Can anyone tell me the full name of Maududi and whether he is of the Sunni or Shiite persuasion. NOT because I am dogmatic abt these things but I always tell my non Muslim friends the persuasion of the writer to set the framework of the readings :) Thank u to all kind soul who could help me :-) Wassalam |

| [slm] Maulana Mawdoodi has also authored a very good book: Let us be muslims. Since his origin is Indo-pak, he has used examples from there, but the book makes good reading for any muslim. | [slm] Thank u everyone for ur help. I just checked out the price of the translation of Mawdudi's work. It comes in 7 volumes even then it ends at surah 26. Each volume costs S$45 so 7 volumes would cost me...... :( Plus I hafta post it to Europe. Someone told me buying it in London is cheaper. Sighhhh Is Muhammad Asad's translation good ? Or is there another version that has good comprehensive commentaries ? Wassalam |

| [slm] If it costs that much why bother? Get the best tafsir out there, Ibn Kathir's tafsir is in 10 volumes and the 15 volume set is about $150 total. Maybe a little less, its available from most online Islamic bookstore. |
