Day of Ashura - Good Fasting Day - This Sunday

Assalaam Alaikum, The Day of Ashura - the 10th of Muharram is this Sunday, March 23, 2002. This is an excellent day to fast. "It expiates the sins of the preceding year." [Saheeh Muslim] Hazrat Ibn Abbas(ra) says that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) himself observed the fast on the day of Ashura (tenth day of Muharram) and he exhorted others to fast on that day. (Saheeh Bukhari & Saheeh Muslim) The prophet [saw] also said the muslims would fast on the 9th the next year, but died before this. So it is good to fast both the 9th and the 10th inshaAllah.
