Islam in America: Peril & Promise Friday, May 24 - Monday, May 27, 2002 Muslim Support Group will be hosting an educational retreat scheduled for Memorial Day weekend Friday May 24 through Monday May 27, 2002. MSG has confirmed an impressive lineup of scholars from across the United States to address the social, political, and intellectual challenges of Muslims in America. MSG is pleased to have confirmed the following academic scholars: Dr. Abd al Hakim Jackson - Professor University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) Dr. Umar F. Abd-Allah - Instructor Nawawi Foundation (Chicago) Dr. Sulayman Nyang - Professor Howard University (Washington D.C.) Dr. Ingrid Mattson - Professor Hartford Seminary (Hartford) Dr. Akel Kahera - Professor University of Texas (Austin) Kamran Bajwa - Attorney Kirkland & Ellis (Chicago) These scholars were carefully selected for their scholarship, expertise, and ability to effectively communicate the material. The retreat will focus on three main areas: (1) the history of Muslims in the Americas, (2) values common to both Islam and the foundational principles of America, and (3) the challenges confronting the Muslim community as it attempts to appropriate an identity and paradigm unique to its reality in America. Location: The retreat will be held at Camp Young Judea in Wimberley, Texas. Camp Young Judea's facilities has its share of amenities making it an ideal location for the retreat: *An all-inclusive facility nestled in the hill country of southwest Texas *Air-conditioned lodging, dining, and meeting facilities *Paddle boating and Canoeing available *Scenic Hiking trails *Sporting facilities - basketball court pavilion and spacious football and soccer fields *All meals prepared and served by the facility's staff *Scenic location nestled in the hill country of southwest Texas Registration: With the help of donations and charitable contributions we are able to subsidize the cost per person for a substantial savings. $145.00 - Early Registration $160.00 - After April 15 **Costs include free transportation from Houston and all associated costs.
