Translated by W.H.T. Gairdner, this is a brief work by Al Gazzali expounding the meaning and interpretation of Light Verse (“Allah is the light of the light of the heavens and the earth… 24:35). Written in high profile philosophical language, one needs a prior understanding of Imam Gazzali’s philosophy before evaluating his logic presented in this book. The translator has almost a 40-page introduction before the actual translation, which is roughly 60 pages. All through the 100 pages, one has to keep a close watch over the arguments presented or else there is every chance for him to label Imam Gazzali- the intellectual giant of Islam, acclaimed by orthodox scholars as the Hujjathul Islam- as a philosophical heretic in the sphere of Islam.
