spending time with my new bro

Asalaamu alaikum,

on Sunday I drove to the city to get the warrant of fitness done on my car and afterwards drove to the mosque for Zuhr(midday) prayer.  I had about 40 minutes to go, so after praying 2 rakaat, i sat down in the corner and started reading the Harun Yahya book- 'Deep Thinking'.. after a while i looked up and noticed Safwan, the new maori brother had come in and sat down.  This brother was only 17 and had taken his shahada three weeks ago.  So I went over and started talking with him and he told me that he tries to come to the mosque everyday if he can.  The brother doesn't have a car, so he usually walks.

We prayed Zuhr and afterwards I invited him to have lunch with me. We drove around to one of the places that serves halal food and I bought him lunch... he was really grateful and although I knew the brother wasn't that well off, he said that he works at a takeaway place and if i ever come over, he'll give me a free lunch.

So we sat down under a tree. people watching and eating and   [].  I asked him about how he first learnt about Islam and he told me that he used to hang out with arabs when he was young and learnt quite a lot from watching what they did. He said that he used to always get in trouble and decided that he wanted a change.. wanted to clean up, so he looked to Islam.  He told me that it feels nice and he feels good about himself now... although he finds it a little difficult to wake up early for Fajr (dawn) prayer, he says he still gets up so he doesn't feel guilty.  He also said he was amazed at all the really educated people who are muslims.. like doctors and scientists.... i think perhaps he couldn't get over the fact that when we're all in the mosque and praying, we're all equal.

The friday khutba was about the duties of children towards their parents and the imam really explained things well, like how much sacrifice our mothers made for us when we were young.. like starving herself so she had enough food to feed her children and depriving herself so she could save up enough money to buy her children new eid clothes and so on... the khutba had really affected Safwan.  He told me that his family were poor so everything the imam described actually happened with him and he used to get angry and argue with his parents when they told him off... but now he saw that it was all his fault and he deserved to get told off... he lives away from home with a relative, but told me he was going to visit his parents on Monday and with a big smile on his face told me that he couldn't wait to see them.

We finished lunch, and i noticed he made sure he didn't waste any food coz as the said, "its not right to waste food".  I dropped him off at his house and we parted ways.. I was happy for the rest of the day.

:) I just wanted to share that with y'all.. I'm thankful to Allah SWT for the opportunity to spend time with the bro, inshaAllah we'll have more opportunities like this.

wasalaam,
;-)Ahmed

This was a nice story- I enjoyed reading it.

As a revert I know that - you approaching him was very important. May Allah swt reward you with good.

Just a simple day in the life of a Muslim.

Nice read!

It never ceases to amaze me how a good deed always comes back to you :) We sometimes feel that we are doing others a favour by being nice and caring when in fact it's us that really benefit from such a deed(and i'm not just talking about the hereafter). Look how happy and content that simple act made you, let alone the revert brother. Who wouldn't want to be happy everyday?

JazakAllah khayran katheeran br. flyboy_nz  for sharing. It sure made my day  :-*
