I made up this survey and I'm asking everyone here to fill out whatever you can. You don't have to answer every question, although I'd appreciate it. Jazakum Allah khair.

1. Do you make a point to shop at Muslim-owned businesses rather than non-Muslim-owned businesses (not just restaurants, but any kind of businesses)?

2. What have your experiences with Muslim-owned businesses been like? (for example, is it better, worse, or the same)

3. What types of businesses do you feel are lacking in the Muslim community? (for example, what types of businesses would you like to see more of, from Muslims)

4. For each of the following categories, list your favourite Muslim-owned restaurant and the city that it's in:

Middle Eastern:

Pakistani/Indian:

American/Western:

Chinese:

Pizza:

Seafood:

Other:
Yes, i do. But there seems to be a lack of variety of Muslim businesses so some times there is no choice but to buy non-Muslim. That's not to say i think there is anything bad buying from a non-Muslim, but one prefers to benefit people who are closest to you, and the Muslims are one brotherhood.

Furthermore, i also differentiate batween buying from stores that sell alcohol and stores that don't.
2. What have your experiences with Muslim-owned businesses been like? (for example, is it better, worse, or the same)
I think Muslims who are first/second generation need to attend courses on customer care. Too often the customer service is appalling. I've seen desi Muslims ignore muslims of african descent so that they can serve the other desis first; i've had desi muslim printers slam the phone down on me when i tried to get finer details about work i needed done, etc.

My overall rating for Muslim businesses is that they are just about acceptable in customer service. There are some that are sub-standard and others who excel masha'Allah. (Like the 'Fatoosh' restaurant on Edgware Road).
3. What types of businesses do you feel are lacking in the Muslim community? (for example, what types of businesses would you like to see more of, from Muslims)
I have a copy of the Muslim Directory, and i think that Muslims are covered in enough different industries alhumdulillah.

Oh the real aim of the questionnaire? haha...

- Middle Eastern: "Fatoosh" - Edgware Road, London.
- Pakistani/Indian: "Ruby's/Ambala" - Ilford Lane, London
- Other: "Azizi's" in Hackney, London. That is sheer class. They have these little chambers with arab style cushions on the floor around the edges and a low table. The food is nice too.
