:oYep- we all got it! Some of us more than others.

:PI am not speaking of eyebrows- but those pesky hairs by the chin and near the sideburn areas.

:-*How do you get rid of them?

LASOR ... LASOR ...LASOR
I 'll tell you it may be expensive but it works.

Electrolisis is very painful and can scar
Lasor hurts a little but the hair grows back thinner and much much
slower. After about 5 or 6 treatments it's gone

Am upper lip costs about 125. a visit x's 5 is what about $625.
Sounds like a lot but waxing, electro, and stuff over years and
years add up, with lasor it is done in 5 or 6 visits over a year.

I have ... had it done on upper lip, chin, neck and stomach. Thinking of doing my legs but it would cost about $4,000 but I would be willing to bet with razors, cream and time over 29 yrs one would spend close to that, well   ;D ...

well, we all have our share of facial hair ::), and you can use threading or waxing for upper lips and chin etc but it is pain ful :ol and I usually break out in spots after them :(. I usually use facial bleach creams like Jolen etc. It works pretty good and does not hurt half as much as waxing etc.
You need to redo it in 3 weeks time which isn't too bad. :)

anyway, keep yor chin up :-/ :D I know I 'll keep mine ;)

WAX!  Not the fancy schmancy stuff that comes with lotions and wipes, etc. (that tends to make me break out) but a good old-fashioned block of wax, melted in the mic.

I also had electrolysis on my belly...took about 6 months....worked like a charm.  I haven't had to go back in over a year.   I didn't find it painful...maybe I'm weird but I actually liked the little jolts it gave me!

After years of pain and tears trying to pluck eyebrows (in my previous life ;)), plucking hairs around lips and chin :P is child's play! As a matter of fact, it hurts LESS than the eyebrows did. Of course I don't have too much to pluck, but being fair complected- when it grows-it SHOWS!!!

Yup, sounds wierd to me  ;)  Not that I know what it feels like.  Isn't it like electric shocks?

Al hamdu lillah I don't have a facial hair problem.  Or maybe I do and I've just accepted myself  ::) I guess I could bleach these sideburns once in a while  ;D ;D

hehehe LOL! I am soo glad no one can notice the hair on my chin, boy o boy, my face was like  :o when I felt my chin and found out that I had hair!!! I just had to touch it all day (I noticed it just as we were driving away from the house) and I felt sooo nauseated at the thought!!!!

I wanna also start removing the hair from my legs, LOL, I tried doing once using Nair! BIIIIIG MISTAKE, my legs were numb for two weeks, I guess thats why the hair didnt grow back for that long, my legs were in shock!!!  :o  :o

I am thinking :-[  of trying somethng called epil stop (a "safe" hair removel thing) you spray on and wipe off... has anyone tried it?????

I will try it and tell you all of my results InshaAllah!

ooh what a girlie topic! :)

Facial hair is a nightmare! I think that mostly all the sisters have given good suggestions.

I think waxing is usually the best for the upper lips, since it takes off all the hair and you dont have to do it that often, i find the cold wax strips by Immac pretty good! You just put them in the fridge for 5 minutes and use them.

For the chin and sideburn area, i think Jolen bleach is the best bet, since it makes your hair goldeny and practically looks like theres nothing there! (unless of course someone looks very closely at your face!) - but even then, it doesnt look bad, and it doesnt make the hair grow longer/faster, so its good.

I wouldnt suggest threading since its VERY painful and with a lot of people, i've seen that the hair grows back thicker!

For arms and legs, wax is usually good so is depilatory cream such as Nair/Immac.

Hope you find something that suits you sis! :)

From an annon:

:-)

In re: lasor vs electrolisis

Lasor is much less painful and not evasive. It goes much quicker.
A 30 minute electrolisis treatment is equal to about 10 minutes lasor.

My personal exper is with electrolisis the hair grew back quicker and it was quite painful. They literally put a fine probe (for lack of a better term) down each individual hair folical and an electric current zapsssss the hair
Can you imagine  laying there while someone is doing this for 20 or 30  minutes.  OUCHHHHHH. And hair seemed to grow back in just two weeks.

It also left marks on me for anywhere from 12 hours to three weeks later, depending on who was doing it. YES I said three weeks.

With the lasor/ sheer light , an upper lip can be done in 5 to 10 minutes,
I was a little red for about  2 to 4 hours and the hair grew back much slower (6 weeks or more) and thinner and less.

Also this is not invasive, it's done at the top of the skin,  not a probe going into the hair folical.

Electrolisis is almost as expensive as lasor but lasor is quicker, less painful and worked much better on me.

Hope this helps.

lolz...womens troubles are as old as womankind (or so my mom says)

anyways, yah, i do threading too, but i guess im like sparrow, with the high pain threshold, becuz it doesnt bother me a bit. im actually very pleased with the results, so i just imagine myself AFTER the torture and it goes by much faster. im getting good at doing it even while watching tv, and you know how time flies during an episode of 'the golden girls' (hehe, spring break at home is getting to me...)

but whats all this about electrolisis VS. lasor? i thought they were both the same thing..i actually considered getting electrolisis, cuz like someone said, it all adds up (the wax, facial bleaches, cruel and intentional punishment, etc)...but i heard its brutal on fair skin. i would rather be hairy than scarred (i think)

ps..i tried nads and it doesnt do jack...i mean, i remove more hair by pulling a bandaid off my arm than i did by using that gobaldee goop  :P

Hey sisters, allow me to butt in here but for those of you that bleach those 'extras', DON'T!  Us guys can notice bleached hair miles away. And this is even worse in the summer or intense lighting where light reflects off the lighter hair. Its so obvious, and funny :-/

And for those using tweezers, I assume you first moisten the skin with warm water. That supposedly makes it much less painful, reduces soreness and chances of spots forming, so best to do it after a shower. Pluck away....:)

I have heard from couple ppl that removing facial hair is not right and maybe even makrooh. But here is what islam-qa.com says:

Shaykh Muhammad al-Saalih ibn ‘Uthaymeen said:

With regard to hair which is abnormal, because it grows in places where hair does not usually grow, such as a woman having a moustache or hair growing on her cheeks, there is nothing wrong with removing this, because it is abnormal and is disfiguring to the woman.

The Standing Committee was asked about women removing facial hair, and they replied as follows:

It is OK for a woman to remove hair on the upper lip, thighs, calves and arms. This is not the same as plucking (eyebrows), which is forbidden.

Always good to have the source....:)

Bleach is not for everyone!!! Especially for people who aren't fair skinned!!!!!!

I was thinking the other day that if i had to choose one or the other i would rather be chubby than be hairy.

It is really too bad that society (regardless of which society that is!) can't accept us the way we are, the way God made us.  From what I can tell, it doesn't seem that any society is immune to this.  :(  Yes, we are talking about small things here, but still ... <<< sigh >>>

this is my first time posting, but i'm not exactly new here! :) actually, i've been lurking here for quite a while... too reluctant to post... but seriously, i come to this board *every day* and i feel like i actually know u people :) well, before i give my opinion on this topic, let me introduce myself... my name is faiza (hence the sn)... and... i'm adam's wife (shadow493)  :-* he had been bugging me to post ever since we got married last summer, bcuz at that time there were no couples posting on the board and he wanted us to be the first... hmm... i think someone already beat us tho :)

anywayz, well from personal experience, NADS did work for me... but its kinda messy and a bit expensive... plus, after a while, if its not kept at room temp. its tends to coagulate... and then when u warm it up (i used a microwave), it doesnt work that well ???
but recently i got sally hansen's "Hair Remover Wax Strip Kit"... so far, its one of the best i've used... its not messy, expensive and it works good (esp. for legs) :)

oh btw, i have this website that has recipes on how to make different kinds of waxes at home... i just have to look for it! i'll get back to u guys when i find it, inshaallah.

I used epil-stop stuff once and I would agree that its messy and seems jsut like any other hair-removing cream etc.But the result was smooth skin for a longer time. But its expensive. And I dont think its suitable for sesitive skin, since I got rashes on the inner part of my legs.
Normally I opt for waxing(legs, arms etc) and ofcourse it hurts like heck but gets the job done. I dunno if ppl do waxing for face but threading does the trick for me  8)
This friend told me how to make wax at home with one part lemon juice and three parts sugar,I belive . If someone has any other recipes, please do post.
Stuff like Nair and other creams ,I think grows ur hair more subtle and thick. It might only be my experience but thats what I think. So I avoid using it on legs or arms.
 Ok,me outta here.

these instructions are tentative cuz the heat range of stoves vary... but try it anyway, u never get it unless u screw up the first time...

ok...things u need:

1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1/2 a lemon
a medium sized saucepan u wont be needing for a while
a spoon
a saucer

~pour water n sugar into saucepan and bring to a boil on hi heat,
*constantly* stirring

~once it begins to boil, lower the heat to medium and let it boil on that for
15-20 minutes, stirring every now and then

~squeeze in the half lemon, every bit of juice it has and stir it in well.
dont worry if pulp or seeds fall in, no biggie

~let it continue to boil on medium heat for another 10-15 minutes or until it
reaches a golden color

~with the spoon, take a drop of the syrup and let it drip onto the
saucer...blow on it to let it cool and test the texture. it should be soft n
malleable, and should NOT be very sticky. rub it between the two fingers..it
should roll into a solid shape (still soft but solid). if it doesnt n makes a
lil mess on ur fingers, let it boil on medium heat a little longer..u have to
keep watching it! check it every 1 or 2 minutes

~once u test it n it reaches the right texture...remove it from the fire
immediately...any excess heat will burn the sugar

USE:
~wash your hands and pat dry them..so that they are just* slightly damp. haul
some wax out with a spoon about the size of a quarter (or less) *****let it
get to the right temperature before u take a glop!**** and with your hands,
stretch it out (squash it, massage it, just keep it constantly moving)
continuously untill the clear golden brown color becomes an opaque off
whitish or faded caramelly color..u'll know the right texture when u feel it.
apply it firmly to hair on skin in the direction of hair growth...and then
quickly pull away from the direction of the hair growth, with force. move to
another area and repeat...

~rinse with warm water to remove sticky residue, do not apply deoderant
immediately(if in the underarm area). if skin is sensitive or tender, apply a
natural based oil or vaseline, no commerical lotions (they have chemicals n
stuff in em)

~if u feel the texture is a little too hard to remove any hair, sprinkle a
*little bit of water and then strech the wax again, as done in the beginning

~store remaining wax in a cool dry place. for later use, simply heat the fire
on high (do not put wax on the fire yet!) allow the fire to heat completely,
and then turn it off...and THEN put the saucepan of wax onto the stove, until
it softens. take out a glob with a spoon. strech it out until u get the right
texture/color..and begin use.

good luck! :-*

anyways, the thing is, i've been told that it comes and goes with hormones. my mum said: "In my day, we didn't do any of this silly sort, plucking and threading and waxing and whatnot".hehe...but i look like a man!!  :o ...people say i'm the spitting image of my dad  ;)

anyways, what was my question? oh yeah, does the hair just buzz off itself? ..as in, with hormones? ok, i ain't as old as most of you guys here, thats why i sound as if i ain't experienced with this sorta thing..  :P

alright then  []
Peace
Me.  :-)

No the hair does not buzz off by itself
- it has to do with hormones and genetics
-and If I recall I remember having to "take care of it" in my twenties.

Wa'alaikum Assalaam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

In al-Saheeh, it was reported that Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “Allaah has cursed the women who do tattoos and those who have this done, the women who pluck eyebrows and those who have this done, and the women who file their teeth and change the creation of Allaah.” Then he said: “Should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allaah  (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed, when it says in the Qur’aan (interpretation of the meaning): ‘… And whatsoever the Messenger gives you, take it, and whatever he forbids you, abstain (from it)…’ [al-Hashr 59:7]”

From www.islam-qa.com Please read both questions.

1) Question:

Some women go to beauticians who style their eyebrows by shaving or
trimming their edges. What is the ruling on this?

Answer:
     Praise be to Allaah.

Shaping the eyebrows by trimming, shaving or plucking their edges in order to  appear beautiful, as is done by some women nowadays, is haraam because it  involves changing the creation of Allaah and following the Shaytaan in his tempting of mankind to change the creation of Allaah. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily! Allaah forgives not (the sin of) setting up partners in worship with  Him, but He forgives whom He pleases sins other than that, and whoever  sets up partners in worship with Allaah, has indeed strayed far away.

They (all those who worship others than Allaah) invoke nothing but female  deities besides Him, and they invoke nothing but Shaytaan, a persistent  rebel!

Allaah cursed him. And he [Shaytaan] said: ‘I will take an appointed
portion of Your slaves;   Verily, I will mislead them, and surely, I will arouse in them false desires;   and certainly, I will order them to slit the ears of cattle, and indeed I willorder them to change the nature created by Allaah.’ And whoever takes  Shaytaan as a wali (protector or helper) instead of Allaah, has surely suffered a manifest loss.”

     [Al-Nisa’ 4:116-119]

In al-Saheeh, it was reported that Ibn Mas’ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: “Allaah has cursed the women who do tattoos and those who have this done, the women who pluck eyebrows and those who have this done, and the women who file their teeth and change the creation of Allaah.” Then he said:
“Should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allaah  (peace and
blessings of Allaah be upon him) cursed, when it says in the Qur’aan
(interpretation of the meaning): ‘… And whatsoever the Messenger gives you,  take it, and whatever he forbids you, abstain (from it)…’ [al-Hashr 59:7]”

2) Question:  What is the Islamic ruling concerning the removal of hair from between the eyebrows?

Answer:
     Praise be to Allaah.

It is permitted to remove this hair, because it is not part of the
     eyebrows.

Am I the only one who doesn't wax, shave, pluck etc even though I'm hairy as a bear??!! Seriously, the no. of times I must've removed hair from arms or legs I can count on the fingers of one hand. My logic is: If I'm not married, and wear full hijab, then why subject myself to torture  ;D
And the fuzz on my upperlip does not make me ugly  >:( although my mom keeps telling me to "hoover" the area  :D(I had a facial epilator)
:-*
