Whats your mosque doing ???

[slm],

All praise to Allah, the most high the most great.

Here in Britain we have over more than 800 registered mosques in the UK. We have numerous Muslim Organisations.
However, on a serious note how effective are your mosques in promoting dawah and raising the plight of those being suffered around the world.

My question is what is your mosque doing if anything to the current crisis of Palestine, Chechneya, India and all those other places in the world under oppression.

Or is the example, of the mosques and its muslim organisation doing nothing or very little very true ?

Lend me your thoughts...

Salaams

I don't think we, as an ummah, are doing enough!  So whether you go to a mosque which is very active about these things or not, there's always room for improvement and to do more, as long as the problem continues to exist.

Some things we do are ...

- make qunoot from time to time
- do khutbas about the situation at these places, and remind people about brotherhood/sisterhood at the ummah level
- invite speakers to come and speak to us as well as non-Muslims about the history/facts/situation of these countries
- invite relief agencies to come and raise funds for these places
- keep a stack of pledge forms next to the door, always, for those that want to donate
- maintain a donation box for various causes

May Allah (swt) help our brothers and sisters in Palestine, Chechnya, Gujraat, Kashmir, and at every place that exists over the Earth and underneath the heavens.  Ameen.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah.

My mosque is very big and quite influential. I'm really proud to be a part of it. Our imam alhamdulillah is very well educated, speaks brilliant english and always tries to appeal to the younger generation. Whenever an article appears in the press ridiculing Islam, he and the mosque committee inform the community and urge us to take action in the form of letters, providing us with all the details we need and warning us of the importance to defend Islam in this ideological war with the press.

In terms of helping the ummah, we have had massive appeals for funds and numerous teams of volunteers going to Afghanistan with aid. During one mission they were greeted at the border by official leaders from the Taliban. The most recent trips were during and after Ramadan.
Other times there was a team that went to Bangladesh after the floods a while back. The chairman broke down in tears during his speach in front of 2-3 thousand ppl while telling us of his trip and the horror he witnessed there.

At all times we have donation boxes for Kashmir, India, Palestine, Afghanistan etc. Islamic relief agencies are always here and though it may seem the mosque is doing enough, all the aid it reaps is only a pinch of salt to what is actually needed. To improve I think we need more vocals from the arab and african communities and more contacts there so aid teams can be more appropriately arranged for those parts of the world.
Dua is always made for the ummah.

We have plenty of speakers come from time to time. Sheikh Yaccoubi from Damascus has been here a couple of times. I even met him ;D

In terms of dawah and propagating Islam to non-muslims, the mosque isn't very active in that. We have enough problems trying to keep the muslim youth on the right track and theft from worshippers during Ramadan!
