Just a mundane thread here.

Has anyone seen the customary pre-World Cup TV ad released by Nike? Its really good masha'Allah, with an excellent selection of players displaying some slick footballing skills.

I thought having Cantona was a really cool touch.

I saw it but didn't pay much attention to it... I'll have to look closer next time coz either I didn't see or didn't recognize Cantona... or maybe I'm thinking of the wrong ad ???

Yep i've seen it and i agree, very slick. Am glad to see a football advert with NO David Beckham...but then again he is Adidas-owned  :D

O...k we now have a sister who's actually talking about football adverts...something must be wrong  ;D

Must be the World Cup season...even had my mum excited last time when some1 scored a goal...  :o..don't ask me how i managed that  :-/.

Neway i don't remeber much of the advert..just seen it once or twice and felt like i had to post... :D..and no i don't support any1 so i won't take part in that discussion and i really don't know that much about football..so i'll leave the brothers to have a very in-depth chat about the advert, the quality and the moves  ;)

Did anyone see the Liverpool/Leverkusen match the other night? you'd never think Leverkusen are top of the table here  :D And that guy that there's all the hype about - Se Roberto - played *rubbish*..not one good play out of him

Yep, i saw that match. Liverpool are SO boring - they defend with 9 players and then snatch a goal somewhere in the second half to win by 1-0.

I thought Figo, Henry & Carlos were cool in the ad. And isn't there also a mention of Pires in one of those teams? I didn't see him playing though. Perhaps they've cut him out due to his missing the World Cup through injury? Allahu a'lam.

I saw it again!!!!

No wonder I didn't recognise Cantona.. I had forgotten that it's about 10 years since I last saw him and he's gotten ..emm.. older and fatter..  ;D

I like the end "losers go home..bye bye"  :D

Yep I caught the second half of the ad about a week ago and, my, how has Cantona grown!!!

Maybe he's been following too many trawlers and eating too may sardines since he went into retirement ;)

On the subject of football anyone else fed up with all the coverage of Beckham and his metatursal?

There was a cartoon in the Guardian on Saturday showing these fans prostrating to a picture of his foot!!! Astighfirallah

Unfortunately to some football is a religion :(

What matches did anyone watch last night? Naturally enough I only got to see the German/Argentina one. Argentina won 1-0. But I have to be honest and say that Germany are looking very strong again. They were short 4 or 5 of their regular players and still played *very* well. Touches of the old Germany perhaps? The reserve goalie - Lehmann - was excellent. Probably better than Kahn. They should play the world cup with all the subs and forget the regulars...maybe they'll get out of the first round that way  ;)

I watched about an hour of the England v Paraguay match, and 30 mins of the France v Russia match.

England played fine, but who are Paraguay? How do they rank among South American teams? France played well too, it was just one of those nights when the ball wouldn't go in. I think they should have won on their home soil though.

France are my favourites to retain the trophy! *smile*

Yep I too wondered who are Paraguay but apparently they beat Brazil and drew twice with Argentina in their qualifying campaign!!!

As for the matches, France had some decent chances from what I saw but couldn't net (unlike Robbie Keane huh Eleanor? ;) )

Maybe we should get everyone to give us their predictions for the World Cup.

I'm going for Argentina on the basis that European teams never do well when they play outside of their continent.
