Sudan to Train Fighters for Palestinian 'Holy War'
Sat Apr 6, 2:59 PM ET

KHARTOUM (Reuters) - Sudan said Saturday it had opened military camps across the country to train volunteers prepared to support the Palestinian uprising against Israeli military occupation, Sudanese state television reported.

"The training camps are ready to receive volunteer fighters as from today, Saturday," said the commander of the Popular Defense Force, Major Gen. Ahmed Abbas.

He called on every Sudanese capable of taking up arms to join the "holy war" against Israel.

Arab anger has mounted over the past week over Israel's military offensive against Palestinian cities in the West Bank.

Sudan television quoted Abbas as saying that the camps were set up according to a directive by Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Abbas said the paramilitary PDF would continue to mobilize all Sudanese people, including women, to protect the Palestinian people and liberate Jerusalem.

No further details were available on the camps or the mobilization plans. It was far from clear how Sudanese fighters could ever be deployed to confront Israeli forces directly.

The PDF was founded in November 1989 to help the army crush its main rebel foe, the Sudan People's Liberation Army, in a 19-year-old war that has cost nearly two million lives.

Alhamdullilah, more power to the Sudanese!

Despite famine and civil war the Sudanese have always openly supported oppressed muslims across the world without fear of reprisals. They clearly have their priorities right, fearing Allah alone and not the US or their cronies.

It makes me so angry that an ummah of over 1billion cannot even put together a single battalion or division to help palestinians and confront the Israeli army. Even during the Bosnian war, volunteers had to be sent in from Afghanistan and the arab world to help fight the serbs. If this is the only way, then so be it.

Peace is still a long way off. The Israelis are only sowing the seeds for more Palestinian anger and retaliation in a battle that it will eventually lose.

Chill bro, the only reason that happens is because we have puppets ruling the muslim lands, but that wont remain forever. Once the people change, the rulers will change.

Well already have thousands of organisations who take part in jihads. We just very few states who organise jihads!!

Military authorities in Sudan have issued a nationwide appeal for volunteers to report to specially set up camps and train to fight alongside Palestinians against Israel.

This is a call to all parties, institutions, trade unions, students and youths, men and women to join the camps

Popular Defence Forces
The Popular Defence Forces (PDF) called for "all parties, institutions, trade unions, students and youths, men and women" to join the camps in a statement broadcast on state television and radio.

The PDF announced the opening of the training camps on Saturday, saying they had been set up following a directive from President Omar Hassan al-Bashir as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

It said the aim of the camps was to prepare the "mujahideen for the Palestinian cause and for freeing the Aqsa mosque from Zionist filth".

It is not clear how any fighters trained in Sudan would make their way to the battle zone.

Clerics' call

Muslim scholars in Sudan have also reportedly called for engagement with the Palestinian cause.

A decree carried in the Al-Sahafi Al-Dawli daily said Islamic armies "should not stand with their arms folded while Israel is killing the Palestinians".

They also called for Islamic rulers to boycott Israel and the USA both economically and politically.

They said they should challenge "American interests until the US reverses its hostile policy towards Muslims".

A fundraising campaign is also under way in Sudan, collecting money in mosques and other public places for the Palestinian cause
