[slm] Sisters,

This past year whenever I start fasting I end up getting a migraine.  It is so bad that I lose my cookies and end up laying down until Iftar.  :(  Does anyone else have this problem?  Do you have any suggestions that would help to prevent a migraine?

Jazakum Allah Khair.

Assalamu alaikum,

Are you hypoglycemic sr Marcie?

I know someone who suffers from chronic migraines.. He found that staying away from certain foods helps to decrease the frequency of migraine episodes.  Chocolates, cheese, milk, eggs and wheat were the things he noticed that can trigger a migraine.
You may want to see a doctor for migraine medication.

Hope you feel better soon.
Take care

I am a sufferer of migraines. I have been getting them for about 6 or 7 years. Most of the times, I end up in the ER to get a shot in my hip because mine get so bad, I vomit and I cannot function. I'm still searching for something that does the trick. I'm on a new medication that I take once a day and at bedtime. It's to prevent migraines. There are a bunch of medicines out there that you could try, just ask your doctor. So far, so good alhamdulillah. Also, as zomorrud said, there are lots of foods that you should avoid. Your doctor should be able to give you a list of these and of other things that can cause migraines. Good luck and I hope you find something inshallah. :)

I agree with Zomorrud- have your blood sugar tested in the early morning after fasting about ten hours(don't do during Ramadan), and before you eat or drink. I suffered from frequent/severe migraines for years- with my blood pressure running 280/218 during the worst phase. All I got was shots to relieve the pain. Years later, after a particularly bad spell, a new Dr. did a history, and connected the migraines with the fact that I had let my diabetes get out of control. Got that in hand and the migraines only come rarely, and usually with times of great stress. Also- cutting back on caffeine has helped to keep them even more rare. Hope this helps!
The  [] comes in decaf- not too bad.
