I would like to know which are the compulsory rakats to pray for the 5 daily
prayer times. i.e do i have two pray both 2 rakats sunah and 2 rakats fajar for the
morning prayers or can i just read 2 rakats fajar?

Does the same apply to making up prayers ?

Thank you for you help

The *compulsory* prayes are only:

2 rak'ahs for fajr
4 rak'ahs for dhuhr
4 rak'ahs for asr
3 rak'ahs for maghrib
4 rak'ahs for ishaa

No other prayer is *compulsory* (i.e. fard).

However, there are certain sunnah prayers whose importance is stressed a great deal in the Sunnah of Rasulullah [saw].  Missing these is not a sin, but we are highly encouraged to follow the example of the Prophet [saw], and we could always use some more ajr [reward] right?
