EVENT: THE CASE OF IMAM JAMIL AL-AMIN
(formerly H. Rap Brown)

WED. APRIL 17th @ 8 PM
Columbia School of Law
Jerome Greene Hall Room 103

The Peace and Justice Foundation plans to have a teach-in on the case of Imam Jamil Al- Amin (former H. Rap Brown) on Wednesday, April 17th.We are asking organizations on campus to help us advertise.

The panel would be provided by the Peace and Justice Foundation. We would like to raise awareness about the facts of the case. In our judicial system, burden of proof lies on the prosecution. The case has glaring inconsistencies, from contradictory testimonies to evidence that was not kept in tact or undoubtedly connected to the crime or the accused.  These elements must be explored to find the truth. Amnesty International USA had also contacted the court prior to the conviction expressing their concern about Imam Jamil's ability to have a fair trial in the Post September 11 atmosphere. The image of Imam Jamil created by the media, also hurt his right to "due process".

No one should be punished without clear evidence of guilt, let alone a well known and respected community leader. Imam Jamil has committed his life to fight for justice. From the days of bus boycotts, sit-ins, and nonviolent protests, to his recent programs to engage children in sports and education and away from gangs and violence.  We would like to raise awareness of how J Edgar Hoover's Cointel program (as a reaction to the Civil Rights Movement) ties into politics around Jamil Al Amin's case, as well as topics such as political imprisonment, civil liberties and secret evidence.

For articles and other information about the case, please feel free to contact Taffi98@aol.com. For additional information on Imam Jamil's case and the Peace and Justice Foundation please visit the website: www.peacethrujustice.org
