On way to work, Quran, Paper, Book, Tune or Mobile

[slm],

Just thought 'd share something with you folks....
On my travels to work on the train or by car, I recently read or pray the Quran, subhanallah I can pray one suparah by the time my journey finishes. I thought wow man, sadly I've been going on the train for 3 years, so all in all I could have completed many Qurans yet Allah knows best.

However, being on the train you can't help realise to see what others do, for example, reading the Zionist paper the 'Metro' or Danielle Stelle and her romance books or spending time on the mobile taking to ones loved ones saying 'I'm on the train' or listening to some shaytan lyrics on the personal stereo.

So how do you spend time on the journey to and from work,
...Reminds me of Surah Asr
103:1 By (the Token of) Time (through the ages),
103:2 Verily Man is in loss,
103:3 Except such as have Faith, and do righteous deeds, and (join together) in the mutual teaching of Truth, and of Patience and Constancy.

salaams

Hanif

I definitely agree with brohanif.... I was just thinking today while I was on the bus on my way home from school about how much time we spend doing *nothing*.... on the train...on the bus... waiting for the bus.... etc. I agree with it all EXCEPT... that Danielle Steele isn't romancey... or else she wouldn't be one of my favorite authors :). Anyway, its pretty scary that according to statistics, the average person spends almost half of  his/her  lifetime *waiting*.... be it waiting for the bus, waiting for the coffee to finsih brewing in the morning, waiting to get out of bed......  its terrifying if you really think about it. So I think making it a personal challenge to do something beneficial that isn't nothing... while waiting,  is crucial and Im sure we will reap the benefits in the long run.....
The man who removed a mountain...began by taking away small stones :)
There are my words of wisdom for the day :) *hehe*....

As I have to drive to work, I cannot read from book. I recite Surah Yasin, which I have memorized by the grace of Allah, in the mornings and in the evenings Surah Yasin and Surah Mulk. I purchased a collection of Qari Abdul Basit's Quran recitation recently and I listen to it often. I'm currently on CD #18. I also listen to Astrolabe/SoundVision audio products and occasionaly ghazals(I wished I had a better alternative to my poetry appreciation).

Those are really good points that all of you made. I listen to nasheeds sometimes, or naats in Urdu, and of course Quraan...If you have the ability to concentrate on driving and listen to Islamic lectures then that's an awesome thing to do as well...But I would get too wrapped out and crash into a tree, I think LoL....
It keeps one calm though, you know how can road rage happen with Quraan playing?  ;)

By the way does anyone else have Al'Mathurat? MashaAllah the qari has such a beautiful voice. SobhanAllah though he is in prison in Egypt. May Allah protect him.

Assalamu alaikum
when my husband and I are in the car together we usually listen to a lecture tape.   We've listened several times to Tariq Al-Suwaidan's seera tapes, stories of the Prophets, Abu Bakr and Umar's life, the story of yawm al qiyama, and also  Amr Khalid's tapes on Akhlaq.. what else... we just keep playing them over and over.
By the way have you ever heard of Amr Khalid?  Anyone who can understand Egyptian Arabic should definitely look into getting his lectures.  He has a website: www.forislam.com
Ma sha Allah he's had a HUGE impact on young Muslims in the Arab world.  It's like his mission in life (he's only 34) is to get people to love Islam and to be proud to be Muslim!  And he does it so well ma sha Allah.  SO many young women have started wearing hijab thanks to him, and so many peopl ehave started praying.  May Allah reward him.
Murshida, you mean Al Matrud?  I love his recitation.  I have a CD and I downloaded a sura from islamway too. Why is he in prison?

Now that sis MF has mentioned it, I'll add an extra three cheers for Tariq Al-Suwaidan and Amro Khalid's talks/tapes. These are two suuupppperb speakers. For anyone who can understand Arabic, the seerah tapes are a must hear. Although I don't have the tapes myself, there's a daily airing of 15 min of the tapes on the radio here (living in Kuwait certainly has this advantage..it's got a 24 hour iza'at Quran al-Kareem...the Quran radio channel).

I first heard Amro Kahlid last Ramadan speaking on tauba. Subhanallah, his talk was amaaazing. He speaks in the Egyptian dialect but theres so much passion in his voice and words just penetrate the heart.  And the dua that he makes at the end of each of his sessions are really beautiful too.

OK, getting back to the topic of the thread, my workplace is only a 10 min drive away, but I listen to the Quran . Most of the times, I turn on the radio before putting the car in gear  :-)

wassalam alaikum :-*

Sorry to hear broHanif has to suffer the tube in the mornings :(. I live in London too but prefer my trek, in the car, out of London rather having to experience the London nightmare that is the tube. I had a reuters email recently about lab tests performed on the tube seats - believe me you you don't want to know what they found :o.

In the car I will normally listen to Qari Sadaqat Ali or Juz Uma. It, alhamdulilah, really gives a good start to day. I also have a naat tape which i'll stick on to bring my unrah memories flooding back.

It is amazing to see what others do on their way to work..i mostly see people talking on their mobiles.

While driving to and from work, i listen to the recitation of the Qur'an by Abdul Rahman Sudais - the Imam in Makkah that usually leads during taraweeh in Ramadhan, mashaAllah he is amazing!! SubhanAllah. Or i listen to Soundvision nasheeds, which are brilliant too.

Lets all try and use that time effectively in the remembrance of Allah, inshaAllah.
