| asalamu alaikoom warahmatulahi wabarakatuhu I need help. A long time ago i heard in a khutbah the hadith that dealt with Sulaiman (as) and Azrael (as)(the angel of death), the hadith goes: One day ther was some kind of somethign going on and there was this tall guy looking very strangely at one of Sulaiman's (as) councilmen, after the event (or whatever was goin on) finished, the tall person went up and talked to Sulaiman (as) for a while, after that, that councilmen went up to Sulaiman (as) and told him that guy was looking at him very strangely and he was very scared, he asked who he was and Sulaiman said that it was Azrael (as) , the angel of death. The man became very frightened and pleaded with Sulaiman (as) that he didn't want to die and asked him to send him to India (i believe Sulaiman had the power to control the wind), well after much pleading Sulaiman (as) agreed and sent the councilman to india, as he stepped foot in india, Azrael (as) took his soul, the man died. After some time, Azrael (as) came back to Sulaiman (as), Sulaiman (as) asked him why he was lookin at his councilman very strangely before and Azrael (as) said that he was perplexed, because he was to take the man's soul in India and he was wondering what he was doing in Sulaiman's kingdome, Now can somebody verify that hadith? It came from a VERY well know and knowledgable Iman so i do trust it very much, however i would like to cross reference and state where it is from so insha'Allah if anyone can help me out, it would be greatly appreciated jazakallah khairum, FI emanAllah Asalamu aliakoom (as) |

| [slm] This is a well known story in the Arab world. I've heard it with Sulaimain being substitued for a caliph, and India being substituted for somewhere far away from Baghdad, which is where the version I've heard is set. Allahu Alam if it's true, but the point is that "Death will find you, even if you are in high towers". |

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh, welcome to the board :) I wasn't able to find this story online.. but I've heard it before, with Sulayman alayhis salaam, in the Lives of the Prophets series by Anwar al-Awlaqi. It's in the first or second tape of the first set I think. I know he based his talks on Ibn Kathir's Qisaas al-Anbiyaa [Stories of the Prophets] so you might want to look there.
