NBA PLAYOFFS!!!

The NBA start tomorrow!!!!!  Is everyone as excited about it as me?

So who is going to win it all?
I know Abu Hamza is rooting for the San Antonio Spurs.
Princess for the Sixers.
And you all know that I'm rooting for my homies, the world champion Los Angeles Lakers.

The Kings, Spurs, Mavericks and Lakers all look good.  But I think the Mavericks are going to eliminate the Kings, since the Mavericks beat the Kings twice this year at Sacramento.

I think it will be the Lakers and Mavericks in the Western Confernce finals.  It should come as no surprise that we didn't hear much trash talking from Abu Hamza or Princess like we did last year, after their teams were thoroughly humiliated last year by the Lakers.  We can look forward to more of the same this year. ;)

BRING IT ON!  Lakers will beat the Blazers 3 games to 1!!!

Bhaloo, bro, all I gotta say is this Spurs team is a *lot* different from last year's team.  They have a much better backcourt this year than they had last year.  If the Lakers do meet the Spurs in the 2nd round, it's not gonna be a cakewalk like last year!

And besides, the Lakers look pretty vulnerable this year.  I mean, look at you!  You're already predicting a 3-1 in first round??  Lakers fans used to predict nothing but 4-0's at least through the first two rounds :)

As far as the East is concerned, all teams still have to go through Philly.  They had injury problems the entire season, and it looks like everyone's back just in time for the Playoffs.  Should be interesting to watch that series: Celtics vs. Sixers.

I'm surprised bhaloo hasn't posted his usual rantings yet about the Lakers after their win tonight :)

Yeah I saw the game.  Kobe played well.  That one move by him in the last quarter where he got fouled and still banked it in with his back towards the basket and his body in the air ... that was nice.  Truly Jordanesque :)

The Blazers can NOT hang with the Lakers.  That has already been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt.

The Sixers lost.  I was kind of disappointed.  Didn't watch the game so don't exactly know what went wrong.  But Celtics are playing at home, so it's expected I guess.

The Nets' loss to the Pacers ... not a whole lot of surprise there.  Indiana does crazy things like that.  They did the same thing last year.  But they're not going to beat Kings in a 7 game series.

My predictions for the first round:

Eastern Conferece:

Nets 3, Pacers 2
Pistons 3, Raptors 1
Sixers 3, Celtics 2 (This series can go either way ... it'll be interesting)
Hornets 3, Magic 1

Western Conference:

Kings 3, Jazz 1
Spurs 3, Sonics 0
Lakers 3, Blazers 0
Mavs 3, Timberwolves 1

you know me... when Jamaal Mashburn gets healthy, Charlotte is going to ROLL OVER (kinda like they did last night) against the Magic.  Question, Charlotte is a 4th seed in the playoffs, generally a good team to have, but why are there still no fan's at the game and why are they still moving ??? It doesn't make sense to me...

Greeting sports fans, an exciting weekend of basketball has come to an end!   Unfortunately, Abu Hamza is way off, as all NBA series in the 1st round are best of 5.   Here's what I think is going to happen.

Eastern Conferece:

Pacers 3, Nets 1  (Indiana has been on fire since the end of the season, and the Nets aren't all that).
Pistons 3, Raptors 0  (Pistons humiliated the Raptors tonight, and humiliated them in the season finale)
Celtics 3, Sixers 1 (Celtics totally outplayed the Sixers, they have much better athletes, a sweep is possible, but who knows, maybe the Fixers can sneak one in)
Hornets 3, Magic 2  (magic have been a big disappointment this year)

Western Conference:

Kings 3, Jazz 1   (The Jazz should have won game 1, and then possibly the series, but they had a huge let down at the end)
Spurs 3, Sonics 0
Lakers 3, Blazers 1 (Lakers looked good, but not as good as they did at the start of the season when Shaq was completely healthy.  A VERY healthy Shaq, and the Lakers will sweep through any team, he's playing through some injuries right now, so they seem vulnerable)
Mavs 3, Timberwolves 1  (What happened to Garnett?  He shot so poorly.)

What are you talking about bro ??

;)

As for your predictions, quite surprising indeed!
Pacers 3, Nets 1  (Indiana has been on fire since the end of the season, and the Nets aren't all that).
I *love* Indiana, mainly because of 3 people: Reggie Miller, Jalen Rose and Isiah Thomas!  But I seriously don't think they're good enough to beat the Nets.  We'll see :)
Pistons humiliated the Raptors tonight, and humiliated them in the season finale
Didn't watch the game.  Was it that bad?
Celtics 3, Sixers 1 (Celtics totally outplayed the Sixers, they have much better athletes, a sweep is possible, but who knows, maybe the Fixers can sneak one in)
Why so much hate brother ??  Maybe you're still stinging from that loss last year that they handed to your team at LA-LA land :)

The game today was *close*.  The Sixers were not totally outplayed.  Iverson went cold in the 2nd half ... something that's rare in the Playoffs.  I don't expect the next few games to be the same.  Philly has too much heart to be blown out in the first round.  And the Celtics don't have enough Playoff experience.  Their athleticism can get them a couple of wins.  But not more than that.

I guess we seem to be agreeing with most of the Western Conference matchups.  I think Lakers will sweep the Blazers, simply because there is *so* much rivalry between the two teams.  Kobe has that look in his eye, that swagger in his game.  He *wants* to embarass this team.  And he'll do all he can to make sure that happens.

The Lakers last year had the best record in the playoffs of any team in the history of the NBA (with the exception of one team that went 12-0, when the playoffs were shorter).  They just had a little too much confidence, but took care of business SWEEPING Philly at home. :)

I watched the Spurs game last night.  :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
The Spurs looked terrible without Robinson.  They were playing one of the worst teams in the playoffs and they lost.  San Antonio has lost home court advantage.  The next 2 are at Seattle, Seattle might be able to pull upset IF Robinson doesn't play.

I was still disappointed though.  But Seattle played like it was do-or-die for them, gotta give them credit.

Don't laugh too hard bhaloo, the Lakers may just lose to the Blazers tonight.   ::)

The Spurs will bounce back though, insha Allah.  Duncan will come out furious next two games, just watch.

I heard that Robinson might not play at all this series.  The Sonics have beaten the Spurs twice in Seattle this season, so if they can win these next two its all over for the Spurs.  I think this years Spurs are worst then last year's team.  Derek Anderson was a good player, but they got rid of him.  And Robinson isn't as young as he used to be.

And what happened to the Kings last night?  ??? hehehe, the Jazz showed them a thing or two.  The Jazz could have been up 2 games to 0 now, but they blew the 1st game.

Is "beautimous" even a word?  Or is it one of those words that goes in the woman's dictionary? ???  Ok, I admit it, Iverson played a good game at the end of yesterday.  (shhh, keep it on the DL).  I still think the Celtics could have pulled it out at the end, and in the game before as well.  That was so disappointing.

And the Spurs did really bad as well.  They may lose friday as well.  Robinson isn't playing, and I heard Duncan is going to TRY and make it back.

Pierce Leads Barrage Downtown in Beantown

BOSTON, May 3 (Ticker) -- Paul Pierce's latest playoff masterpiece certainly evoked memories of the Boston Celtics' glorious past.

Pierce scored 29 of his playoff career-high 46 points in the first half and decisively outdueled Allen Iverson as the Celtics routed the Philadelphia 76ers, 120-87 , in Game Five of their Eastern Conference first-round series.

Pierce led Boston to its first postseason series win since 1992 by making 10-of-13 shots in the first half. He fell one point short of Boston's franchise record for points in a half -- a mark held by John Havlicek and Larry Bird.

The Celtics swingman had 10 points in a 15-4 run in the second quarter that gave Boston the lead for good, 54-43, with 3:20 left in the half. He bookended the spurt with 3-pointers.

Iverson, the reigning league MVP, scored 20 of his 31 points in the first half but simply could not keep up with Pierce's torrid pace.

A 3-pointer by Iverson at the buzzer pulled Philadelphia within 77-67 after three quarters. But Boston used a 13-4 spurt to take a 97-79 lead with just over six minutes left.

The Celtics continued to pour it on and made seven of their 17 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, including several in the final minutes. Boston outscored Philadelphia, 43-20 in the fourth.

Boston will visit second-seeded Detroit on Sunday for Game One of their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

So the game tonight was a miracle? ??? hehehehe.  The Sixers are finished as a team.  I wonder which team Iverson will end up on?  The Clippers?

The Lakers humiliated the Spurs again!  After humiliating them last year, the Lakers, showing signs of being rusty from all the time off, with Shaq injured, and Kobe injured, came back in dramatic fashion and stunned the Spurs 86-80.

The Lakers are now 20-1 in the playoffs, and have the best record in any professional sport in North America.  No word or sign of Abu Hamza.  :P

No sign of David Robinson, and the Spurs badly need him :(

I hope he comes back by next game.  Without him, the Spurs are definitely in trouble.

My prediction for this series, providing Robinson comes back ...

Spurs 4, Lakers 3

The Lakers are playing at home and were well-rested, yet they showed many weak signs in this game.  The Spurs, after a tough long series against the Sonics and missing their star center, held their own for most of the game.  This series is faaar from over.

Stay tuned :)

Duncan beats out Kidd, Shaq for MVP honors

SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan, among the NBA's leaders in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots, has won the league's Most Valuable Player award, a league source said Monday.

The five-year veteran outpolled New Jersey Nets guard Jason Kidd by a narrow margin, the source said on condition of anonymity.

Voting by a panel of 126 media members took place before the playoffs began.

Duncan's selection will be made public at a Thursday news conference in San Antonio, the San Antonio Express-News reported on its Web site late Monday afternoon.

Duncan is scheduled to be honored on Friday at the Alamodome, prior to Game 3 of the best-of-seven series between the Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers (NB: right before he will school Shaq, Kobe and the rest of the laker team). The Lakers won the first game of the Western Conference semifinals on Sunday in the Staples Center, with Game 2 to be played Tuesday.

"Honestly, it's not of great importance right now," Duncan told reporters in Los Angeles after Monday's practice. "The important thing is the game tomorrow and winning that one. ... The (MVP award) will take care of itself."

(NB: Can you say humility?  A world of difference from the egoistic attitude that Kobe and Shaq carry with them wherever they go  ::))

Duncan led the Spurs to the Midwest Division title for the third time in four years while posting career bests in several categories.

He was fifth in the NBA in scoring at 25.5 points per game and second in rebounding at 12.7. He also averaged nearly four assists and blocked 2.48 shots (3rd in NBA) while playing about 41 minutes.

Duncan led the league with 67 double-doubles, and was voted to the All-NBA first team for the fifth time in as many seasons. He was also selected for the All-Defensive first team for the fourth straight year.

Kidd, whose Nets won the Atlantic Division in his first year with the team, was also a first-team All-NBA pick and a first-team All-Defensive selection. He averaged 14.7 points, 9.9 assists and 7.3 rebounds.

The nine-year veteran also led the league in triple-doubles (eight), was second in assists and was third in steals (2.1).

Last week Duncan left the Spurs for several days when his 71-year-old father William died after a long illness.

Without him, the Seattle SuperSonics soundly beat the Spurs to even their first-round playoff series at 2-2, but in the deciding Game 5, Duncan returned to an emotional reception at the Alamodome and paced San Antonio to a 101-78 victory that moved them to the second round.

Well well well!

The MVP showed the flakers how it's done tonight.  Although missing the twain of the twin towers from action, the Spurs built a *huge* lead against the flakers at their home court, with Shaq and Kobe on the court and then held on to win it in the end.

Kobe, the star of LA-LA land, turned it over in the last second  :-/

Shaq, once again, was helpless against Duncan (as he has *always* been, this year's playoffs as well as last year's .. it was Kobe who killed the Spurs last year, *not* Shaq).  Looks like Superman left his cape with his kids when he was busy imitating Spiderman :)

Anyway, ahem.  Nice try though.  Afterall, all good things must come to an end right?  ;)  It was good while it lasted.  The end is drawing near ...

1 down.  3 more to go.

And now the Spurs head home.  Home sweet home!

The San Antonio Spurs (*) do not have the heart of a champion or the skills to compete with a champion.  [I put an astericks by their name because the only championship they won was an NBA shortened season.]

The Lakers after humiliating them last year by an average of 20+ a game in the playoffs (which I believe is a record) had a major let down in the last 2 games.  The 1st game the Lakers were rusty from all the time off, but because the Spurs aren't a very good team, the Lakers won.  In the 2nd game the Lakers probably figured that even though they played really bad they still won, so why even try.  San Antonio had a 21 point lead, and that lead was down to 4 or 3 points late into the game.  But coming back from that much deficit requires a lot of energy, and the Lakers became tired.

The Lakers last year were the best team the NBA has known, Shaq is unguardable and the Laker offence goes through him.  This year Shaq is playing injured, his big toe, and he doesn't have the dominating prescense like he did last year because of this injury.   Kobe has to continue to realize that Shaq is the star and that the offense goes through him.  The loss last Tuesday, should be a wake up call for the Lakers that they need to actually try against the Spurs*.

Mavericks and Kings

In game 2 the Mavericks played some incredible basketball and displayed why I think they are a contender to the Laker's throne.  Steve Nash and Van Exel were incredible together, but in game 3 they had a major let down.  If Nash can continue attacking the King's defence the Kings will be in trouble.

Iverson

It should come as no surprise that the Sixers were eliminated in the 1st round, and this was because Iverson did not play team basketball.  In the days that followed Larry Brown and Iverson had some discussions.  Weather Iverson will be a Sixer next year, remains to be seen

Hi Abu Hamza, feeling sad about the Spurs losing? :)

The Lakers had really good intensity throughtout this game, the only problem was that Shaq still was not himself, he's playing hurt.  So there isn't that invincibilty like there used to be.  The Spurs came out strong with Tony Parker and Malik Rose.  Duncan played poorly and turned over the ball a lot in the end just like he did last year when the Lakers double teamed him.

Home sweet home, indeed. lol :D  The Lakers beat the Spurs twice at the Spurs home!!!  The game today was incredible, the Lakers after being down by 10 with 5 minutes to go come back and win by two points.  Talk about humiliation for the Spurs.   The Spurs had the game but collapsed in the end, they weren't man enough to handle the pressure and crumbled.  One can only imagine what feeling the Spurs and Abu Hamza are feeling inside.  Its like an adult (Lakers) waving candy in front of a child's eyes (Spurs), and the Spurs naively thinking they can get a hold of the candy race it for it, but the adult puts it over his head.  How frustrating for the Spurs (and Abu Hamza).  :P

Cheer up bro, your always welcome to root for a winning team, the Lakers. :)    We won't hold it against you.  :)  The Kings amazed me with their game play against the Mavericks yesterday.

Looks like its going to be the Lakers against the Kings and the Nets against the Celtics.

slm,

I can't believe how quiet this thread has been considering how amazing the playoffs are going!  First off, I was never big on western conference games, but since none of my teams are in the Eastern conf playoffs any longer    :'( , I've been pretty interested in the Kings and Lakers series.  The reason its so amazing is because they're both such AWESOME teams... I may be speaking too soon---but I think the Lakers have met their match :)  Ok, lets be honest.  If the Lakers make it to the finals--they will BEAST--no one on the east can match them.  If the Kings make it, they too will beast, but I think it will be more of a fun game because the Kings are much nicer than the Lakers  :P

Besides...who wants the Lakers to 3-peat?? Not me!  Let's let someone else win the title! I'm rooting for the Kings...and I think they have a fair chance of winning it all..

What do you guys think?

Oh, on a side note---my husband and his friends seem to think that the Lakers get off a lot easier from the refs because the refs have been paid off, because apparently the Lakers are "supposed" to win.  I don't really buy that, seems a bit too political, but who knows--anything is possible.

Bhaloo, mabrook on the Lakers' victory   They'll 3-peat.  Probably even sweep the Kings.  I really think Spurs were the *only* team capable of beating them.  Alas, Kobe has proven to be Michael Jordan re-incarnated, and Phil Jackson definitely knows some sort of Zen magic!

:(  nazr laggay  :(   Every team Abu Hamza cheers on loses.  Abu Hamza can't you root for the Kings? ;)  The Lakers have been playing so poorly,  but yesterdays game got off to a good start.  Shaq was playing really well, playing like the dominant player he is.  Unfortunately he got into foul trouble, many of the Lakers did and that was very costly.
I don't buy it either.  Shaq had only 1 free throw attempt yesterday, and after the 1st half the free throw attempts for the Kings was like 5 times as many as the Lakers.  If anything, the Lakers weren't getting the calls.    I think the Kings get off easier cause of all the fake acting and flops that Vlade Divac does and the other Kings.

The keys to a Laker victory are:
*Kobe guarding Bibby to slow down the King's offense.
*Shaq not getting into foul trouble and playing with the same intensity as he did yesterday.

Remember in the last game how much cheating took place?  Shaq went to the free throw line only once, even though he averages over 10 free throw attempts a game.  Also in the last game, Weber set an illegal screen on fisher, thats what enabled Bibi to hit the open jumper.

Its too bad about the Celtics though.  :(

Pssshttt, that's not a very nice thing to say about us Laker fans (i.e. Amer, Aabidah, Nouha, etc.)  :(  But that's to be expected from someone used to losing. ;)

This game today was the most intense game I ever saw.  My heart was racing and going up and down.  The game was so close.  Shaq was the hero of the game, but he wasn't as dominant as he was last  year.   Congratulations to all the Laker fans out there.  It was a hard fought victory.

slm,

Man, what an intense and sad game :(  I couldn't believe they lost.  I had to close my eyes in the last few seconds of the fourth quarter because I couldn't bare to see whether they'd be able to tie the game...  They were...but they just lost control in overtime---Though Bibby is a beast.

Oh..one gripe...WHY WAS DIVAC FOULED OUT?!?!  That totally just seemed like a mutual collision to me.

Anyways, my prediction:  The Lakers will 3-peat in a sweep against the Nets---they MIGHT lose one, Insha'Allah! :)

ps--Shaq was doing amazing at the free throw line

nouha, you missed an awesome game! :)

why did divac foul out?  my question exactly!  the game was *not* officiated well (again).  but this time, it wasn't called properly on both ends of the floor so i guess it evened things out.  the nba does need to do something about this though.

the kings lost because they couldn't make their free throws (where shaq made his), and because of those missed shots by stojakovic (*wide* open 3) and doug christie.  you miss those kinds of open shots at crunch time in a game like this ... i don't think you deserve to win!

as much as i *hate* the lakers and their cocky attitude, i think they'll romp over the nets in the finals, and win the title once again  ::)

Vlade Divac is the biggest actor in the NBA.  He is always flopping and crying about almost every play.  He is much worse then Iverson when it comes to crying.  Chris Webber also complains about  a lot of plays.  And this guy Pollard, hahahahaha, he just wants to foul people.  What kind of defense is this?

Shaq is hacked on practically every play that he has the ball, but the referees aren't calling it.  The game could have been over in regulation if Kobe hit the tip in, or made both his free throws, or if Shaq had made both free throws.

But in the end the better team won.   :)

slm,
*yawn*

What a boring game last night.  It just did not have the feel of an NBA Finals game...The Lakers were TOTALLY not trying...they're starters were all getting a nice break while their bench warmers went for the title...And the Nets were just missing shots EVERYWHERE....It was no surprise that the Lakers won, though I am surprised at how close the score got in the last quarter..because at one point they were trailing by almost 20...(or perhaps even more.)  I had guests over last night, and I was having more fun washing dishes and cleaning up my kitchen then watching the game!

Anyways, the Lakers will sweep.  I miss the Kings :(  The were such graceful and talented players.  It was fun to watch them and their amazing passing skills...oh well.

The Lakers were up by 23 early in the 2nd quarter.  The game was a joke.  The Lakers started to leave people wide open, put their bench players in, and let the Nets get back into the game by not even trying.    The real NBA finals were between the Lakers and the Kings.  The Lakers need to take the Nets seriously if they want to sweep.

Shaq is da man!  What a completely humiliating experience for the New Jersey Nets and their fans.  Where are all the Nets fans on the board?  Abu Hamza?  Princess?   :P  The Nets don't have anyone to guard or slow down Shaq.  Personally I think Shaq played better last year, although this year his free throw shooting has gone up.   Two games down two more to go,   its going to be a Lakers sweep this year in the finals, insha'Allah. :)
