[slm] I was just reading about that. Did any of the east coasters get scared? I regularly sleep through earthquakes that less then 7 on the richter scale. When it gets to be 7, my eyes open and I look around the room. If it last for more then 30 seconds, I situp in bed. And when its more then a minute, I say OH OH. BTW: every point on the richter scale means its 10 times in magnitude more powerful then the one before. a 7 earthquake is 100 times more powerful then a 5 earthquake. |

[slm] Yes- I was scared. At first i thought the old wooden chair I was sitting in was about to collapse- then I thought I was getting dizzy and about to faint. I stood up and walked into the living room and saw the water in the fish tank sloshing around... It was about then i realized what was happening. Stuff like this is very unusual for us. Thanks for posting that information. We almost never have earthquakes. I did not know what 5.1 meant. Thanks for putting a perspective on it! |

assalaamu alaikum When i was in Pakistan about a decade ago, i slept through an earthquake too. It was powerful enough to make the stone arches in the house i was living in bend, as my mum tells me. I also, slept through the massive storm in the UK in 1987. But i still consider myself to be a light sleeper! *smile* Anyhow, has anyone ever wondered about the coincidence that the homosexual capital of the world is situated on top of the San Andreas fault? Is that the earthquake that hit eastern Ontario, western Quebec, parts of Vermont and parts of New York ??? I saw it on the news last night. They were saying that there's a region of high activity in western Quebec and that there's actually one or two earthquakes per day. :o Most of them are so small, however, that they go undetected. Approximately every ten years there's an earthquake of the magnitude of the one yesterday. :-[ Julie :) |

My parents felt this one too. They were still in bed and my Mom thought that my nephew (who is staying with them for a couple of weeks) was at the bottom of the bed shaking it, trying to get them up. :-/ |
