| From a friend: The reason for Canada voting against the human rights fact finding mission is politics. The Americans are putting heavy pressure on Canada to protect Israel and to deflect criticism. The Zionist lobby is putting extreme pressure on the Canadian politicians to protect Israel. There is virtually no countervailing pressure from a pro-Palestinian side. Even the NDP demoted Svend Robinson for speaking out for the Palestinians. The Canadian Alliance is the worst on this issue. I am not sure what the Conservatives are doing but I have heard and seen nothing. The London M.P.'s I have spoken to report that virtually no calls are coming in in support of the Palestinians. This in spite of my providing the contact information and urging the London community to contact their M.P.'s. The petition the Dr. Baker sent out to several lists and and I also forwarded to the 250 individuals and the lists that I have on my distribution system to urge Canada to help stop the massacre of Palestinian has a dismal 164 signatures after two days on the net. I know Leyla has signed it. I was number 6. But very few others have signed it. The politicians are not stupid they can count. Our problem is organizational and that the community does not mount any sort of sustained and co-ordinated political effort. No elected politician wants to commit political suicide. The pro-Palestinian side has to learn to support Svend Robinson, and people like him, and to elect people who are prepared to support the Palestinian cause. That is what must change first then you can go after the politicians who support Israel and protect it. The rest of our efforts are a waste of time so long as we allow the Zionists to have total control of the political arena.. For the record and as a Past-President of a Federal Liberal Riding Association I wrote a very strong letter criticizing the Canadian Government for their vote. We must take the fight inside the corridors of power not to remove ourselves from the power structure. Leyla Paul wrote: It is uncconscionable that Canada should veto a mere fact-finding mission. The morally grotesque politicians in Ottawa who have turned themselves into cheap purchasable commodities have no right to also sell-out Canadian and international humanitarian values. The pursuit of information through a fact-finding mission can only serve the quest for justice and human dignity. How can they possibley justify that veto? Please, please let's do something. I'm so furious I'm ready to renounce my Canadian citizenship and become a stateless Palestinian once again.
