Bismillahirahmanirrahiem

[slm]  :-)s and  ;-)s,

Last Friday I got this mail from my dutch muslimahsmailgroup. This mail was making a link between the attacks in America and the Holy Qoer'aan.

The attacks were on 11-9 and the WTC had 110 floors, well if go to the 11th Juz and then Soerah 9 Al Tawbah, Ayaa 110 you wil read this:

The foundation of those who so build is never free from suspicion and shakiness in their hearts, until their hearts are cut to pieces. And God is All-Knowing, Wise.

(from the online Qoer'aan on Jannah)

But if you read the other ayaa's before it you will understand that Allah (SWT) is talking about a Masjdid that was built with the wrong intentions.

But stil....
I'm not sure what to make of all this...

Ma'a Salaama, Iman.

Don't try to make anything out of it  :-) Like you said the ayah refers to mosques that weren't built out of taqwa (by hypocrites) and that's all.  I personally don't believe in looking at the Qur'an in terms of numbers and ayah this and juz that, especially since the juz and sura numbers didn't descend as part of the Qur'an, they were just added later on to make it easier to read.

Just a correction here.

You're right when you say that the Qur'an was not divided up into different juz's by the Prophet [saw] or his companions.

But the division according to Surahs was according to how he [saw] had taught the companions, as well as the sequence of the Surahs.  So which Surah is Surah 1, which is Surah 2, and so on, was decided by the Prophet [saw] himself (through wahee of course).

Wallahu a'lam.

The order of the suras in the Qur'an of course was through wahy, but they weren't labelled: surah 15, sura 114 as we tend to do now (I actually think this was taken from the way ppl refer to chapters of the bible).  So that's why I don't think the number is that important.

The first known division of the Qur'an in to 30  juz' was by the taabi'een.
This same item is being passed around in Arabic with the added "item" that the wordsÌÑÝ åÇÑ (crumbling, overhanging) in aayah 109 of surah At-Tawbah is the name of the street that the World Trade Center was on.
Some people have too much time on their hands.
Almost always, but not exclusively,  the surahs are referred to by name in Arabic, not by number.

Assalamu Alaikum,

In the English Translation of the Qur'an with Meanings and Commentaries by Yusuf Ali, this is what is says about ayah 108, 109, and 110 of Surah At-Tawbah.

"The true Muslim must be pure in body, mind, and heart.  His motives should always be sincere, and his religion without any alloy of worldly gain.
A man who builds his life on piety (which includes sincerity and the purity of all motives) and his hopes on the Good Pleasure of Allah, builds on a firm foundation of rock that will never be shaken.  In contrast to him is the man who builds on a shifting sand cliff on the brink of an abyss, already undermined by the forces which he does not see.  The cliff and foundations all crumble to pieces along with him, and he is plunged into the Fire of misery from which there is no escape.
"Their hearts cut to pieces", i.e., they meet their death.  The parable is continued further.  The heart of a man is the seat of his hopes and fears, the foundation of his moral and spritual life.  If that foundation is on an undermined sand-cliff already crumbling to pieces, what security or stability can he have?  He is being shaken by alarms and suspicions and superstitions, unlike the edge of a sand-cliff they are cut clean away and fall into a heap of ruin and his spiritual life and al it's land-marks are destroyed. "

So, here it's saying that what's destroyed is not actually the physical self, but the spiritual self of the Muslim, and that's what we have to watch out for.  We have to build our foundation so strong and pure of intention, that it can't be shaken by anything.  If it's not built on a strong foundation, then it will crumble as if built on the edge of a sand-cliff.
May Allah give us the strength and patience to strengthen our Iman.  And may He guide us on the straight path into Jannah.  Ameen.

Wassalamu Alaikum,
Betul
