To make something very similar to bbq sauce, combine ketchup and worschteshire sauce, and you can add a little sugar if the flavor is too strong.  Use about 3 to4  times as much ketchup as W. sauce and keep tasting it as you go adding more ketchup if you want.

Here's a delicious Moroccan marinade:
1/2 cup each of finely chopped parsley and cilantro leaves
2 or 3 cloves of garlic (minced or pounded)
1/2 a small onion chopped up fine
1 tbsp each of cumin and paprika
a little oil to make it into a paste
salt to taste
and chili pepper if you want it hot.
You can put all the ingredients in the blender instead of chopping if you like
If it's for fish, add more garlic and juice of a lemon.

hmm..if you are looking for an alternative to spicy meats then I can't really help you but I'll try :)

What we usually have for a barbecue are :

lamb ribs
kebabs made of mince (like kofte mixture)
and kebabs from chicken and beef
chicken wings

for the chicken/beef kebabs, buy fresh chicken breasts and some good steak meat.  The night before, chop it into largish cubes, place in a bowl and pour in oil and vinegar. (vinegar makes the meat really tender). Then add whatever spices you want. We usually go with salt, chilli, tandoori masala and black pepper. Mix it all up really well and leave to marinate overnight. Then for the barbecue you need skewers to skewer the meat on. We put a  piece of chicken, a piece of onion, a piece of pepper, a piece of beef... etc etc.. you can also put on courgette (zucchini) .. whatever you like... You can also prepare the lamb ribs like this the night before, but they taste good too when done like the chicken wings (see below). When buying lamb ribs make sure you get the butcher to cut them into individual ribs for barbecueing.

For chicken wings we usually blend garlic, ginger and green chilli peppers into a paste, with some oil, zeera, dania, salt and then coat the wings in this mixture. This can be done shortly before barbecueing. Like I said you can do the lamb ribs like this too.

Do you need a recipe for kofte mixture? If you have the mixture then just press it onto a skewer in a sausage shape and barbecue as normal....

My husband also likes liver and kidneys. If he has them, we marinate them the night before too.

Make a nice chutney to go with everything out of yoghurt, spices, salt and some blended onion and green chilli pepper.

Hope this helps :)

Here's my "So easy even a guy could make it BBQ Chicken Tikka Recipe" :)

1. Go down to AliBabas local corner grocery and pick up a box of those Shan Masalas: BBQ Chicken Tikka spice.

2. Go down to local Halal Meat Mart and pick up a few pounds of chicken.

3. Clean and cut chicken into Barbequable pieces.

4. Cut two slices in each chicken piece, put into big bowl.

5. Add Shan Masala to bowl, mix, put bowl into fridge overnight.

6. The next day barbeque the chicken et voila!!!!

7. Send box of (lindt) chocolates to poster of recipe.;)

Jannah I actually did that 2 weeks ago.  Unfortunately the Shan masala was a little strong for my stomache.  Maybe some yogurt added to the recipe would cool things down a bit? ???

I was thinking of doing some salmon, and maybe just adding some salt and pepper and then BBQing it.  Has anyone done shrimp before?

I am desperately looking for the receipi for barbeque chicken. The same kind you get a fairs and churches.

(Not the tomato/ketchup base kind)
