what's really interesting is that a lot of swimmers, men included, shave their entire body (including legs, arms, etc) before a tournament!  it gives them an edge in the contest, where even a split second can count against you.

Hmm i can understand shaving shoulder hair who wants all that hair on their back weighing them down...    ;D

But Chest hair?! it's just right for hiding that medallion !

Just do whatever your wife prefers. If a shaven chest rocks her boat then shave it ;) A lot of men do it for that reason in addition to showing off their pecs. If on the other hand she prefers you to be hairy as a monkey then leave it ;D

If you're not married, I suppose do whatever makes you comfortable. Unless theres some ruling on it I can't understand why some people keep it soo hairy! :o Its unhygenic.

Whaddya think lurking sisters?! :D :D

I know you only meant it as a joke explorer, but I just want to clarify this anyway.

I don't think it's appropriate for brothers and sisters to openly express their opinions about the physical appearances of each other.  I think it lacks Islamic etiquette.  Therefore, I would request that sisters (if they are reading this thread) to not get involved in this discussion (at least not to pass unnecessary remarks about men's chest hair!)

Jazaakum Allaahu Khairan.

I guess what I'm trying to say is ... let's try to observe hayaa in front of each other in this virtual world as we would in front of each other in real life.

Remember, we *are* accountable for the actions of our limbs.  And fingertips are included in that category.

Good post Abu Hamza. And i don't think your advice applies just to this thread, but all threads, in particular those in the akhwat cafe, and ikhwan club.

Just to set the record straight that joke isnt to anyones 'personal preferences' (hell no!) but to what they think of *my* actual post and a dig at the sisters since they're always accusing us of lurking in their boring cafe :P

*phew!*

Glad to get that off my chest ;D

is there a reason?  in the US the reference point for this seemingly
bizarre practice was the institution of movie codes in ~1939.  before then,
near nudity in movies was common, natural appearance was acceptable.
in fact, when ronald reagan first appeared as a swimmer in a movie (forget the
name) with his not-yet-wife nancy davis, he became one of the first
of this new generation of BARE-chested male movie stars.  it started
a trend that has never reversed.  retail ads which now commonly show
men without shirts continue this entrenched value of marketable
physical appearance.  without regard to the content of movies or
retailing onslaughts, fighting an imposed standard for physical
appearance alone is reason enough not to participate in this
practice.
