Do You feel Different?

Yesterday the reporter asked me this question. It was pretty thought provoking.

At so many times I feel as one of many- and at other times I feel like a circle in a box of square pegs and holes.

How would you have answered this?

I myself have not converted yet, but with all the studing I have been doing and all the reading, I have found myself not doing some of the things I use to do. Like I have stopped wearing shorts. I have never done any of the bad things like drugs, drinking stuf like that. And ever since I marrie my husband I stopped eating pork. I find myself disagreeing with alot of things that go on within America also. But I bet I will feel alot different once I do convert to Islam. Thanks for taking the time to listen.

Since I always felt out of place before, I felt like I'd come home after I reverted. Even when my family turned from me, it didn't hurt as much because I had a universal family that was proud of my decision.

Subhan Allah!  This feeling that you both are describing, it reminded me of this hadith
of the Prophet [saw]:

“Indeed Islaam began as something strange. And it will return as something strange the
way it began. So give glad tidings to the strangers”.

Insha Allah you, and the rest of us, are among these [i]ghurabaa[/i] [strangers] that the
Prophet of Allah [saw] told his companions to give the glad tidings to.  And this
strangeness that you feel sometimes in your heart is not only felt by you, my sisters, but also
the rest of us who choose to remain on the Path of Righteousness, regardless of the
pressures from the society around us.  We are in this together, insha Allah.  And with us are
those believers who are no longer with us in this world, who paved this Path of
Righteousness for us to walk on, and who look down upon us from the heavens with delight, and ask
Allah (swt) to bless us and forgive us our shortcomings.

And what a beautiful company that is!  The company of the Saaliheen [righteous], the
Muttaqeen [God-Fearing], the Siddeeqeen [Truthful], the Shuhadaa [martyrs], and the Anbiyaa'
[Prophets]!

Allaahummaktubnaa minhum.

O Allah!  Include us among them.

Ameen.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
