| [slm] If you were holding an event to raise awareness of Islam to non-muslims what would you talk about? Any ideas from sisters who have converted to Islam? I thought that holding a workshop would be a good idea but what topics should be covered? How would you structure the workshop? Any ideas would be really appreciated. The aim is to have 2 workshops - 1 for the men and 1 for the women. Ideas from brothers about the mens workshop would be appreciated too! [wlm] |

| [slm] Wow, There is soooo much scope for discussion when it comes to Islaam, I don't know where to start :). But speaking as a trainee science teacher, I would probably want to hold a workshop about the contribution muslims have made to science. I find that this is an area that can spark off alot of interest wiph non mulsims as many are not not aware of the 'golden age' of the muslims and the origins of many scientific thoughts that are taken for granted today. You could relate the history of the muslims and link it to geometric designs and architecture and the desire the muslims had to expand the field of science to try to justify in debates why Islaam was the supreme way of life. this would lead to discussing the origins of Algebra, Logarithms, Medicine, Hygiene, Alchemy etc etc. you could also go on to talk about the advances made in recent scientific thought that has used the Quran as a reference point e.g Embryology The beauty is that beacause the muslims were steadfast in their belief in Allah, they progressed rapidly and were aware of their limitations and their knowledge was only used to benefit mankind and not to harm it...subhanallah :) I would also probably want to discuss the Quran, this could take a whole workshop. Alhamdulilah there is soooooo much cognitive conflict in the Quran and scope for discussion. I admire what you are trying to do and wish you all the best. I always find it difficult talking to non muslims and it takes alot of patience. Remember the majority are brainwashed by society and spend their lives watching telly, but inshallah even if they go away with a greater understanding of the highly sophisticated heavenly deen of Allah then even that is an achievement. | That sounds really cool. I myself am looking into converting to Islam. My husband is Muslim. I agree though it will take alot of paitecnces talking to non Muslims. My family are Christain and they are totally closed minded to Islam. That is one of my problems that I am having with the idea of converting to Islam. I have studied Islam for a least 6 months now and I have not bought the subject up once to my family because I know how closed mind they are. Where might this workshop be? | Thanks for your replies. The Islam & science perspective sounds really good mashallah - never thought of that sis Maariya. ann- the workshop is in the UK. I live in a small Islamic community and we want to let everybody in our town know that Islam exists! Its a shame that your family are not open minded to islam but unfortunately this is common.
