assalaamu alaikum

Why do Jews write "God" as "G-d" ??

And how interesting that one of Blair's closest advisors, in fact, arguably the most important architect of Blair's rise to power now speaks at a pro-Israel rally?

I already know that Mandelson is gay, but is he Jewish too?

I remeber a Jewish lady who came into a Islamic chatroom and used to do this, but for the life of me i can't remember the reason she gave. Inshallah I'll remember or will find out.

Neway, this demonstration of 30,000 ppl got more coverage than the pro-Palestinian one which had a turnout of 100,000...not surprisingly. Both CNN and BBC have reports on the event..and the BBC did have live coverage of parts of the demonstration...

Thousands come to support Israel

Tens of thousands of Jewish demonstrators have gathered for a rally in central London to show solidarity with Israel.
Police estimated more than 30,000 people attended the Israel Solidarity Rally in Trafalgar Square.

The event organisers said it was the UK's biggest show of support for the Middle East country for a generation.

But the campaigners faced opposition from up to 400 mainly Muslim protesters, separated by police, who staged counter-demonstrations.

The rally was organised to protest "for peace and the resumption of talks in the Middle East."

A spokesman said it was not in support or otherwise of current Israeli Government policies, but simply to say there should be peace for the people of Israel.

"The aim is to say yes to peace and no to terror," he said.

History

The crowds gathered for the event carried Israeli flags, the Union flag and placards calling for an end to suicide bombings.

A number of high profile speakers addressed the rally, including former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Labour MP Peter Mandelson, Conservative Deputy Leader and Shadow Foreign Secretary Michael Ancram, and Chief Rabbi Professor Jonathan Sacks.

Mr Netanyahu thanked the British Jews and all Britons for their support.

He said if it had not been for Britain's resistance to Nazism, the course of history may have been very different.

"Britain stands before another road now and it must choose between two opposing paths. The path of appeasing terror or the path of confronting terror," he said.

He called on other nations to support Israel, saying: "Israel is determined to fight. The question isn't whether Israel will fight but whether we will fight alone."

The only route to peace would be replacing Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat with a new leader, he added.

'Vision of peace'

Peter Mandelson, Labour MP for Hartlepool, said the Israeli-Palestinian dispute could only be settled by both sides actively engaging in the peace process.

"By building a peace process and rebuilding it and rebuilding it, every time it falters or fails we must demonstrate to those with legitimate grievances that they can achieve a just outcome - but only by pursuing a political route.

"Violence and terror will only delay and obstruct the just outcome they seek.

"Politics not violence secures peoples' lives."

The former Northern Ireland secretary said a vision of peace benefiting all had sustained the peace process.

"In the Middle East, this vision is of an Israel secure within its borders, its existence unchallenged, its people never with their bags packed, never prepared to run again.

"And it is the equivalent for the Palestinian people - a viable, independent state, one that brings not just freedom but responsibility too, fulfilling all the obligations of international law."

The gathering was policed by up to 1,000 officers.

Police said there had been some pushing and shoving but the event had passed peacefully and there had been no arrests.

'Provocation'

But some Muslim groups said they found the timing of the event "offensive".

Massoud Shadjareh, the chairman of the Islamic Human Rights Commission, said: "We feel that in the light of the recent massacres in Jenin it's extremely insensitive to organise a rally and blatantly say they support the state of Israel.

"It's extremely offensive, not just to one community but to all of us who believe in certain absolute values."

Kumar Murshid, chairman of the London Muslim Coalition, said the Israeli rally could not have come at a more insensitive time.

He said: "People feel this is provocation.

"If the purpose of this rally is to support the Israeli government and its position then it's clearly not a step in the direction of peace but quite the contrary. People feel very strongly about that."

The Israeli Solidarity Rally spokesman said: "It's a shame the Muslim groups don't want to join in but we are calling for a resumption to peace talks, and we aren't going to be distracted by people looking to wind up trouble."

Members of the organisation Jews for Justice for Peace were also staging a counter-demonstration.

When reading this part of the article..reminded me of another article i read...(I know, I know..loads of articles)

Police Islamophobic attitude at the pro-Israeli rally condemned

A Muslim journalist, who was interviewing Jewish and Christian demonstrators,
was forced to stop the interviews and made to join a Muslim demonstration on
Monday. Expressing “serious concern” at the “heavy handedness of the police
towards Muslim journalists who was doing his duty”, a spokesperson of the Muslim
Council of Britain (MCB) said the police acted Islamophobically as the
journalist was forced to leave his work “just because he was a Muslim
journalist”.  Other Muslims were beaten up under the watchful eyes of the
police, who neither came to their rescue nor apprehended the perpetrators.

The incident happened outside St Martins and the Fields Church where Jewish and
Christian counter demonstration against the pro-Israeli rally were standing. The
Muslim News journalist was interviewing Jewish demonstrators who gave him a
leaflet on the forthcoming pro-Palestinian demonstration in two weeks’ time when
Jewish security personnel, who had been following him for some time, “sprung on
me and asked why I had the leaflet advertising against Israel”. They called the
police who, without inquiring who he was or what he had in his hand, accused The
Muslim News journalist of “trying to distribute inflammatory material and
provoke an incident”. The police officer refused to listen to the journalist and
told him to join the anti-Israeli Muslim demonstration. The police officer told
him, “We don’t care if you are a journalist. You are a Muslim and must go to the
Muslim demonstration.” He escorted the journalist and his mother, who was
wearing a hijab, to the Muslim demonstra!
tion and asked two police officers to look after him so that he did not leave
the enclosed area.

Earlier, The Muslim News journalist was refused entry into Trafalgar Square to
cover the speeches by the Jewish security personnel, even though he showed them
his accreditations. “He called me a ‘Muslim scum’ and to told me ‘to get out of
the area’.”

Muhammed Zuraiki of Palestinian origin and Hasan Uhra of Iraqi origin were
approaching the pro-Israeli demonstration at Trafalgar Square when “eight big,
big guys set upon us”, related Hasan. “Do you wanna fight”, the gang asked them.
“We tried to ignore them and walked along, but they continued to taunt us. We
were set upon. Muhammed was hit on his lips and I was hit on the side of my head
by my flagpole,” said Hasan. He claimed the police “just stood by and did
nothing”.

Two Muslim women , donning the hijab, Razia and Zaynab, had gone to the rally
early and were just near the ‘lion’s end’ of Trafalgar square “when we found we
were surrounded by 12 police officers,” said Razia. They asked them to move away
and join the Muslim area of the demonstration. “We told them we had come to
listen to the speeches but they insisted we had to move,” related Zaynab.
However, they managed to return and joined the Jewish crowd. The police officers
came and told them to leave as “we have been told you should leave”. Razia said:
“The Jewish people around us, to whom we were talking, told the police that we
were not doing anything wrong and that they should allow us to stay. But the
police refused and we had to leave.”

The spokesperson the MCB said they were going to take up the matter with the
Metropolitan police in their next meeting which will be held in two weeks’ time.

I heard that it is insulting for God if his name is written.. I will ask my sister, she'll know, because she is in a forum where they all write God like that. Insha Allah.

They believe strongly in the name of God not being used in vain, so to avoid using it in vain they instead write G-d, or so someone once explained to me.

ok, what my sister said is that they are forbidden to throw away anything with the name God on it, and deleting stuff from their computer counts as throwing it away, so to avoid this form of blasphemy, they don't spell out God and instead write G-d, and therefore have neatly avoided the problem.

they also believe that Allah (swt) hands are tied against them

they will be able to debate (and win!) against allah (swt) on the day of judgement

whereas a muslim will say subhanalla if something good or bad happens to him they say they are not allowed to take  gods name ! why on earth do they bother praying then ?!

they borrowed the not saying the gods name from middle eastern mystery religions where only the priests knew the name of a particular demon (evil jinn) or god and so were able to command them.

this was a lucrative source of profit for the priests as only they could do the prayers and eat the sacrifices. the name 'jahweh' is the name of the pagan god the yahood began to worship in the middle east.
