[slm] The subject tiltle is a dangerous statement.- I would ask the Brother - where he got this from. I have read that many Rabbi's consider gelatin Kosher because the chemical makeup changes when processed. However- adding stuff to gelatin does not change it. Perhaps that is what he is thinking. If you add soda to whiskey- does it change the fact that it is still alcholol? |

As-salaamu 'alaikum - Do you live in a Muslim country? or pre-dominantly Muslim area? B/c in that case, I guess it would be halaal, most likely. Not to bust anyone's bubbles, but if you see a gelatin-containing product and do not see that it's a) halaal or b) kosher (specified in various ways), then it may not be halaal for you and Allah knows best. For those of you who eat non-zabeehah meat, most gelatin used these days comes from cows rather than pigs, if that's any consolation. For those of you who eat kosher, there are some kosher gelatin products, but not a whole lot (usually has a symbol). For those of you who only eat zabeeha, some gelatin is from vegetable sources, but it's even more rare. In all cases, please call the information number on the product to find out for sure. Better yet, email/mail them a letter to get it in writing. Ex/ Regular Skittles contains gelatin from cows. New Skittles (Mint flavored only, I think) will contain gelatin from vegetable sources. :) |
