These are some of the terms being set by Hindu villagers for their Muslim neighbours who fled after the Godhra massacre and now want to return home. In Randhikpur village of Dahod district, Hindu villagers want rape charges against three persons dropped. A 22-year-old woman alleged she was raped in the nearby Panivella village where she hid after seven of her family were killed. Relief camp to home is a long, long distance. At a meeting on Thursday, Muslims were told that 65 of their families could return if the ‘‘rape charges were dropped and replaced with minor offences,’’ villager Majid Ali who attended the meeting told The Indian Express. In Pandarwala village in the Panchamahals, where 27 people were burnt alive, top of the majority community’s list is the condition that a doctor who hails from Kutch and lives in the village be expelled. Says Faiz Mohammad, who attended a peace committe meeting organised by the district administration: ‘‘Since the doctor had a computer, the villagers felt that he keeps in touch with the Pakistani secret services, the ISI. Our return depends on him being expelled.’’ In Kadwal village of Chhotaudepur taluka in Vadodara district, Muslims have been asked to agree that they ‘‘won’t engage in the same business as ours,’’ ‘‘you won’t take part in our functions’’ and ‘‘you won’t prevent us from using your assets, for instance, your vehicles.’’ A couple of Muslim families have returned after they agreed to these conditions. In Raichha village, about 15 km from Chhotaudepur, 28 families have been asked to convert to Hinduism if they want to return, says Mohammedjafar S Makrani, a former councillor. These families are among the 100 who fled Raichha and are now in a relief camp that he runs. Villages like Panwad in Vadodara have laid no conditions: they simply don’t want the Muslims to return. They have made this clear by attacking the refugees right under the nose of the police when they came this week to find out how badly damaged their houses were. Says head constable Jaswantsinh Chavda attached to Panwad outpost: ‘‘Aa gamma koi condition nathi, emne Muslim joitaj nathi’’ (There is no condition here, they don’t want Muslims back). Two days ago a Muslim returned to collect his bank passbook and he was attacked. ‘‘Had I not reached there they would have killed him,’’ Chavda says, adding: ‘‘It’s good if they don’t come back. So far they haven’t lost any life, now they will.’’ Even in Vadodara city, at least half a dozen houses of Muslims were torched in Bagwada because they didn’t agree to drop charges against Hindus involved in a case of stabbing. Says Bhagyesh Jha, District Collector, Vadodara: ‘‘We are aware of these conditions. We have told the people, please don’t do this, sit down and talk it out. There is little that we can do, this has to be sorted out at the community level.’’ In some cases, like in Panwad, the message has been conveyed through writing on the wall, threatening the refugees that if they return, their wives and daughters will be raped. | |

| [slm] I hate to say this, but this is the [u]SECOND[/u] time I've agreed with ;-) Mujaahid on a subject! This one being more serious, but I still agree. If faced with the choice of leaving Islam or dying- I'll fight every time. I have had to fight my way here, and I'm not about to leave without a bigger fight. My life is but a passing thing- my [u]soul[/u] is forever. | |

| [slm] Laila as old as you are, your never too old to prepare for jihad. Go to your local sports centre and i'm sure they'll have a self defence class for pensioners :D Anyway, i have always said, and so have most forward thinking muslims that Jihad is the only way to deal with most of the oppression the muslims are facing. In one case i heard of, a muslim man and woman, on a motorbike, were stopped by a gang of hindu's. They asked the muslim woman if she was a muslim, she said no, she was hindu, then they asked the muslim man if he was hindu, he said no, claimed he was a hindu (neither man or women has islaamic dress on). The hindu's, not feeling these people were being honest, stripped the man naked, and saw that he was circumsized, and killed him, then burnt his body. they dont the same to the woman after gang raping her. Will the muslims STILL turn away from Jihad? | |

| [slm] These Gujju's need to get their act together. The days when pathans were able to defend them (Musharaf being the reason why) are unfortunately over Theres plenty of ammo and weapons available from across the border in pakistan if any gujju wants to defend himself from these hanumans, If only 1% of the muslims arm themselves they'll be civil war in hanuman-land |

| [slm] Muquddar I'm as Gujju as Gujju gets!!! Anyway i'm gona have to email you about this "arms" thing. I think the muslims should donate some money to the gujarat muslims for weapons. They are living in poverty thier and can just about get by on what they have. They just dont have the means therefore to buy weapons, which is where the rest of the worlds muslims come into it. I'm not to sure, but does Gujarat share a border with Pakistan? |

| [slm] hmm you've never been to subah sarhad ?! the place is awash in guns i read a while back that the indian army soldiers were buying smuggled weapons from pakistan because the quality was better :D i'm sure if the indian army can buy guns from pakistan any gujju wanting to defend himself and his family from hindoo pogroms can too gujju's don't have money ?! *jaw drops* you gotta be kidding ! |
