Bismillah [slm] - Translated by moi - The Minarette in the Cabaret Muslimah performs Comedy London- Ever since 9-11 her show begins with the opener - "My name is Shazia Mirza - at least that's what it says on my pilot's license.." After this somewhat hefty introduction pretty much all stereotypes fly out the window. From our correspondant - U. SCHILLING-STRACK, London Whether Islam or Christianity, man or woman, poor or rich, whichever way the world turns, Shazia Mirza is ready with a gag. Because most of her gags are hilarious, the 24 year old englishwoman is the new star of the British Comedy Scene. But the first muslim comedienne in the world doesn't have it easy. Minarette in Caberet - many find it hard to laugh. Even more since 9-11, when the tensions between cultures increased drastically. Shazia treats the topic lightly with her pilot-gag and attacks the new opinion that there is a bomb beneath every veil. On her crusade against intolerance, the biology teacher doesn't make any friends. Whether Afghanistan ("I'm glad the women there aren't allowed to drive - they wouldn't be able to see a thing from under the veil..") or pilgrimage ("In Mekka I suddenly felt a man's hand on my back - it must have been the hand of Allah..") - nothing remains sacred. Not everyone can laugh about it. In a London Club Shazia Mirza was openly attacked while on stage. Muslims accused her of blasphemy. TV appearances are therefore a rarity. One has to be careful with the big TV companies. "Shazia's Comedy Hour" is broadcast however on the radio weekly. The 24 year old is one of the stars of the Comedy scene who booed at political correctness. Everything is allowed - but only if it's funny. original article available at : www.szbz.de/news/ |

[slm] Have any off you actually seen Shazia Mirza? She simply isnt good enough for any decent muslim men, thats why she hates muslims men so much, and comes out with such disgusting jokes such as referring to muslim men as pigs and pork etc. I would hate to think what the taliban would do if they got thier hands on her. Of with her head probably. I wonder if this coconut would get any laughs in front of a muslim female audience. Obviously her white non-muslims audiences love her, and she is prepared to bend over backwards to please them and get a few cheap laughs from a few drunks, regardless of how offensive and blasphemous her comments are. After what happened to that Pim Fotyn MP the other day, if i was Miss Shazia Mirza, i would keep a low profile from now on. Edited by moderator |

Nouha it isnt sad, its disgusting that this a woman, who wears the hijab, makes those disgusting comment and "jokes". Its sick, and its blasphemy, and if this was a muslim country, she would face a severe punishment for it. She isnt no child, she knows EXACTLY what she is doing, she is even a school teacher! I dont think the Americans have heard of her, and how lucky you are. This "muslimah" makes jokes which would make any muslims blood boil. One day some big fat sister is gona approach her and gives her a BIG slap in the face, in front of one of her audiences as she is really asking for it. >:( |

[slm] mujaahid i think you should chill out bro! don't assume somebody is evil incarnate because they have some bad points . I think some of her humour is tasteless whilst other bits challenge the assumptions of non-muslims |

assalaamu alaikum I've heard some of her interviews, and i've seen clips of her at her gigs (some of which are held in pubs), and i don't actually think she's funny. But that aside, if she is making jokes like the one that was quoted in the article about feeling a man's hand on her back, then regardless of the fact that she ISN'T "evil incarnate", she is crossing a dangerous boundary that no Muslim should. [slm] I heard about this comedian after sept 11 when she was being talked about as a very successful british export to the US. She did look funny if nothing else but her jokes are very offensive. This is probably the key to her popularity, but if she still using that pilot joke then I don't think we have to worry about her being there very long. imran |
