Al hamdu lillah I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.   :-*  I'm almost finished with school.   ;D Now all that I need to do is put my portfolio together.  What I would like to do is put poetry about children and/or education throughout the different sections.  I was wondering if some of the sisters/brothers might know of some good poems?  I will even take poems in other languages as long as there is a translation.  Of course I need to know  the author or if it is anonymous.  Jazakum Allah Khair

wa alaykum as salaam,

woohoo, good for you marcie :)  educated Muslim women rock on  8)

an awesome hadeeth about tarbiyyah:

"Indeed Allah, His angels, and all the creatures of the heavens and the earth - even the ants in their hills, and the fish in the sea - pray for the forgiveness of one who teaches people good." [/color]

I dig Maya Angelou and I think she'd have some poetry that might be good for this portfolio.  Lemme see what I can find for ya ;)

wasalaam =)

i've always liked this:

Khalil Gibran

The Prophet (1923)

on Children

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of Children."

And he said:

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;

For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Jazakum Allah Khair.  (May Allah reward You)   My goal is to hand in my portfolio by the 24th of May insha'Allah.  :-X  It is going to be a very stressful week.  :P The one poem that I have is Children Learn What They Live.

oh sister marcie, i am so sorry i forgot to get back here for you!  i hope things went well and that you found what you needed.

(i really thought i could find some good things for you to use.  but i've had, well, let's just say a difficult week, with a couple of big bumps, lots of twists and turns, and leaks in my memory - leading to me going to my lab today, starting an experiment, and having someone say to me quizzically "aren't you signed up for (blank) instrument?"  oh yeah, the piece of equipment a group begins to hover around if someone is half an hour late for the time they signed up for.  yeah, just THAT instrument, and i forgot to go in early for my 11 hour experiment.......causing myself to be here at home for a "break" at 9pm at night. ayyyyyyyyy.....)

well, i can just laugh at myself, and say that if your schedule changed and you're still looking for material....i'll try again..  ;)
