Help your brother, whether he is opressed or an op

The above hadith means to stop him from opressing if he is an opressor. There is just too much opression of women in the muslim world, and we are too silent about it.  Why is it we get so worked up when the kuffar do zulm against our brothers and sisters, but we remain deadly (literally, in the case of the following article) silent when the oprresion happens at our own hands ?  Why is it that when we hear about muslims being burnt alive in Gujrat, we get on our horses and start shouting, but that NO ONE has brought this article to anyone's attention ?  How long are we going to turn a blind eye to the opression of women going on practically everywhere in the muslim world ?

15 girls die as zealots 'drive them into blaze'

Saudi Arabia's religious police are reported to have forced schoolgirls back into a blazing building because they were not wearing Islamic headscarves and black robes.

Saudi newspapers said scuffles broke out between firemen and members of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice who tried to keep the girls inside a burning school in Mecca.

Fifteen girls were killed as they stampeded to escape from the blazing building in the Muslim holy city. Saudi media and families of the victims have been angry over the deaths of the girls in the fire that gutted the school.

The resulting public criticism of the religious police, or mutaween, is highly unusual.

The English-language Saudi Gazette, in a front-page report yesterday quoted witnesses as saying that members of the religious police stopped men who tried to help the girls escape from the building, saying: "It is sinful to approach them."

A civil defence officer told an Arabic-language newspaper, al-Eqtisadiah, that he saw three members of the religious police "beating young girls to prevent them from leaving the school because they were not wearing the abaya".

He added: "We told them that the situation was very critical and did not allow for such behaviour. But they shouted at us and refused to move away from the gates."

The father of one of the dead girls alleged that the school watchman refused to open the gate to let the girls out.

"Lives could have been saved had they not been stopped by members of the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice," the Saudi Gazette said.

The much-feared mutaween roam the streets of the conservative kingdom wielding sticks to enforce dress codes and sex segregation and to ensure that Islamic prayers are performed on time.

Those who refuse to obey the orders of the religious police are usually beaten and sometimes jailed.

Alhumdulillah, this news story was proven a hoax.

The source of the news itself 'AlWatan' eventually conceded that their reporting was inaccurate.

Probe Blames Girl for Saudi Fire

Mon Mar 25,12:08 PM ET

By DONNA ABU-NASR, Associated Press Writer

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) - A student who stubbed out a cigarette on a pile of papers caused the March 11 school fire that killed 15 girls, but the authority that oversees girls' education was also held responsible for neglecting problems at the facility, Saudi press reports said Monday.

However, the investigation into the fire in the holy city of Mecca absolved the powerful muttawa, or religious police. The final report described as "untrue" earlier reports that said the muttawa blocked rescue attempts by male firefighters and paramedics because some girls were not wearing
long black cloaks and head coverings required in public.

The report, carried by most Saudi papers, came a day after King Fahd forced the retirement of Ali bin Murshid el-Murshid, a Muslim cleric who headed the Presidency of Girls' Education.

The king dissolved the girls' education authority and replaced el-Murshid's with Khedir al-Qurashi, a technocrat in the Education Ministry, which until now had overseen only boys' education.

The step removed a key institution from the control of the religious establishment. Since girls' education was made possible in the 1960s, a clergyman had been in charge to reassure parents their daughters were safe.

After the fire, the media reported rampant corruption and scores of problems plaguing schools in the world's richest Muslim country. Newspapers carried reports about scorpions and snakes in some
schools, crumbling ceilings and recurrent electric short circuits in others.

Saudi newspapers, which had made unprecedented demands for el-Murshid's removal, reported the news in large headlines.

The investigation blamed the girls' education authority for putting the school in a building with one, narrow staircase and for allowing about 800 students to occupy a space intended for about 300. It said there were no fire detectors or alarms and too few fire extinguishers.

The report said the girls' education authority ignored an earlier plea from the principal, Munira Fadl- Alrahman Mustafa, to deal with the problem of overcrowding.

The investigation also blamed Mustafa, the principal, for not ensuring the removal of trash from the building.

and this is supposed to prove what? that the muslims were bad muslims?

maybe they were just stupid and incompetant

one of the most amazing things i've seen is muslims blaming everything wrong with the world on them being bad muslims !

if this was the case why did the saahabi have to fight and die at all? just because your a good muslim dosn't mean you won't have to struggle

the muslims didn't pollute the earth or cause mass extinctions or commit wholescale genocide neither can anything the muslims did be compared to the second world war or hiroshima or nagasaki or anything that came after

i reject that the muslims need to correct themselves more than any other nation , this tactic may have been used by ghengis khan to justify why he was commiting the holocaust of muslims in iran but i blame it on the mongols, ghengis khan and that traitor from a certain sect who betrayed the muslims to further the cause of his heresy.

nobody except allah (swt) can stand in judgement over the ummah because we are the best of all the nations
