i will be graduating soon and i have a question to ask you hijabis.

when you graduated did you wear the cap? i don't want to wear it because it looks funny with a hijab on. now of course i won't take the hijab off and i can't skip my grad, so i want to know how you sisters dealt with it.

also what color hijab did u wear? i was thinking of wearing black, but the gown is black and i don't it'll all look good.

jazakallah

as salaamu alaykum grad  ;)

I wore my cap.. I was a little hesitant to wear it too, but *everyone* looks funny in a graduation hat so it's okay :)

I don't think it would look right if you wore a black scarf, or a printed one.  Hmm.. because the gown is black, I think it would look nice if you wore a shiny type scarf [solid colored], maybe with beads at the hem.  But we have to take into consideration your outfit!  What are you planning on wearing?  :)

To answer your question, for my highschool graduation my gown was white, and I wore this like blue outfit thing [complicated]..  I wore a black scarf with a blue dupatta sort of draped on top *and* the graduation cap on top of all that :-)

our colors were yellow and purple, (yuck!) but anyway, the gown and cap were yellow for the girls and purple for the guys,

i wore a purple ourfit underneath my yellow gown, and a purple scarf then my yellow cap over it, everyone actually liked it cause i was wearing the school colors but anyways, lol....

just like seven said, everyone looks funny in one:)
if u want i can send u a pic and u can see how i did it:)

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullah Wabarakatuhu

I agree with Sheen .We had black gowns and caps with purple borders.MashAllah Did we look smashin' or what?!:)

Anyhow so I wore a very white normal scarf and wore my cap on it .It looked  very simple and nice I think .One of the brit teachers actualy complemented me with white looks better:).For some strange reason All the other hijaabis had worn  various styles of black ???

Happy Graduation:).
Dont forget to tell us what you decide on.
Assalamualakikum warahmatullah wabarakatuhu
Ps:The gown and all is black so the white hijaab makes the face look enlightened :-X

slm,

i just went to my college graduation last weekend :)  I went to my husband for support and encouragement after I had gotten dressed and asked, "Do i look goofy?"

"Yes, you do, quite goofy in fact"

:P  I was not expecting that answer :)  But then he stated that graduation gowns are inherently goofy and that everyone looks silly.

As for the hijab, the thing is, you wear hijab everyday, so when people see you at graduation, they will obviously *expect* to see your hijab on under your hat.  That basically means that it won't look *weird*, just normal.  You won't look like everyone else, but you never do, so it's ok! :)

But to answer your question, I chose black, and I believe our gowns were navy blue. However, more important than the color is the style of the hijab.  You don't want one of those cotton/triangle hijabs because they'll sort of poof under the cap.  Pick something that'll pretty much stay flat on your head no matter what you put on top--rectangle shaped hijabs in a linen, polyester or thick gorget are usually pretty good in that sense.

Oh, keep in mind its summer, and those cheapo, thick graduation gowns can be killer!  Wear something nice and cool underneath! :)

Good luck and congrats!

Wassalam,
Nazia

thanks for replying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay i have decided to wear a white scarf, because it`ll match my black gown with white stripes

but my problem is i have desi skin ( light brown) and facial hair on my cheeks  :o!!!!! and let's not talk about the eyebrows :o!!!!!!!!!!! and if i wear white i am afraid my facial hair will show even more! you know like stand out! :(

so i wanna to wear dark colors but then it won't look good because my gown is black and then i don't want to wear white because my facial hair will show, but right now that's the only color i CAN wear!!!!!!!!!

so what do i do???????????? :( :o

help me pls!!!!!!!!

p.s yes nouha i would like to see your grad pic please. if you don't mind. i am a real girl  :-) and i promise not to show it to any boy!

Asalamu Alykum,

A nice printed hijab will look cute  :) It can be a combination of like grey, white and black and it'll add a  nice look to your cap and gown. My graduation gown was also black, i had a printed hijab and my friend had all black. But shez casper so all black looked good on her   ;) However, my printed hijab was this silk one , i had so many pins on it didn't move at all. But i didn't like the color , i think it was toooo bright. InshaAllah khair though, you'll find a nice hijab and do tell us which one you picked.

IMHO a cap with hijab underneath radiates character ;)

My gown was black too and i wore a printed hijab (burgundy and pink) . It looked quite nice alhamdulillah.

Since you're wearing black you can choose almost any color for your hijab. My only advice would be to avoid big prints, especially if they're the floral type(i prefere the free style color combinations). Also, take your skin color and face shape into consideration when you're choosing a hijab. Sometimes a scarf would look good on someone else but when you put it on it doesn't look so good.

Congratulations for your upcoming graduation insh'Allah :)

you're kidding right? brown is *beautiful*!! i mean some people spend a fortune so they can get tanned and some of these tans are quite DARK! (Mmmmm chocolat ;)

You should try out some warm colors (earthly tones) like plum, burgundy, maroon, golden brown and some lighter ones like dark baige, dark pink , violet, light green and my favourite : sky blue.

These are the colors that *i* would wear (i'm darker than you are though).

Good luck with the the hijab selection   :)

Asalamualaykum,
[slm] i would agree with mohja, about the earth colors, maybe a light beige color would be nice, i'm also graduating this yr inshallah, and our grad. clothes are maroon, for the grad. photoes i wore a light/faded pink scarf, it did look okay, but for the actual graduation ceremony, i was planning on wearing a beige one with black design prints, but after thinking about the whole thing, i decided against going for a few reasons,
1-its mixed, after spending the whole year in a segregated school i think it is inconsiderate of them to do this to us/ but they say its too expensive for two seperate functions
2-the whole thing is gonna be video camera-ed, for everyone to get a copy,
3-even tho our principle wont shake our hands b/c its an islamic school, he will put the tassle on to the left side of the cap, its sposed to a symbolic thing instead of shaking our hands, but i still dont think that's right, even tho he is an old man.

so i decided that i could live without it, and my bro will be taking me for dinner at Burj al Arab instead, this real nice hotel here,

Anyway your situation may be different, since your in a non muslim country  things are done differently, and since your a muslim, Allah will take care of how you are seen by others.  [wlm][color=Maroon][/color]
