| Salaam InshaAllah there will be a protest on Wednesday June 5th in Albany to mark the 35 years of illegal occupation of Palestine by the Israeli military. The rally is calling for in end to the illegal occupation, end to US aid to israel, the US should stay out of Iraq, and is adderssing various issues concerning the war on terrorism such as profiling and detention of muslims. This protest is being put together by various peace and activist groups in the capitial region whom i am working with. It would be great to have a big turn out of muslims from the capitial region to show their solidarity with our brotherrs and sisters in Palestine. The Prophet of Allah pbuh said that the greatest jihad is to speak out against an unjust ruler and also He pbuh stated that if something unjust (may Allah forgive me I know i am misquoting it) you should try to change it with your hand speak out against it or hate that thing with your heart. We as muslims must speak out against what the Israel is doing and what our government is doing in the occupied territories with our money. This is our obligation to Allah and to our brothers and sisters in Palestine who are suffering on a daily basis. The protest/rally will start at 3:45 in front of the Leo O'brien federal building in Albany where we will group together and at 4:00 march from there through Albany the streets of Albany to the Washington Armory in Albany (next to the Albany Public Library) If somone is unable to make the march from the Federal building (because of work) we will arrive at the Armory at roughly 4:30 where there will be speakers and we will continue the protest please feel free to join us there the protest will end roughly at 6:00 pm. It is very important that we speak out against injustice and that there is a strong muslim presence at the rally. Your presence really would make a difference. There will be news media present people will be disseminating information to passerbys about the palestinian issue this could be also a good dawah oppurtunity. We need to let our congresspeople and state govenment know that we do not support the occupation of Palestine and that we do not want to pay with our money through our taxes to kill our brothers and sisters. | [slm] Is this protest sponsored by the Peace Coalition? I forgot their real name, something like Stand for Peace Coaltion...? They have meetings every week, and I'm on their e mail list but I haven't been to a meeting in a looooong time, do any of the sisters go or wanna go?
