| I wonder if anyone can advise. I converted to Islam just over 3 years ago. My husband is a west african muslim (sufi) and inspired me to find out more about Islam. I find the local mosque a little intimidating as it is very male dominated and I yearn to talk with and discuss issues with other female muslims- to learn from their experiences and maybe establish links with some recent British converts. I am very interested in intellectual discussions on Islam, on Islam and feminism, politics etc and feel starved of intellectual stimulation. I would also like to make links with a sufi group but not sure how to go about this -I live in Scotland. Is there anyone out there interested in discussing these issues and maybe sharing experiences of converting to Islam. May Allah bless you. |

| Asalaamu aleikoum Katie Welcome to the Madinah: a kind of one-stop-shop for friendly Islam-related advice!! We have many reverts on this board (of which I am only one), many sisters on the board, some Scots and perhaps one or two that might fit all three descriptions! Insha Allah some of the sisters will be happy to make your acquaintance (virtually). Feel free to chip in and kick off any "intellectual discussions" in here, that would be good. First of all, if you would like, we have a kind of convention whereby new citizens give a short intro to themselves in the Bebzi Stand. So, why not take the stand now ... | Asalaamu Alaikum Sr Katie ;-) Welcome to the board ;-) As Br Haaris says feel free to introduce yourself at the Bebzi Stand and check out the Al Manar Lighthouse where other reverts have been known to congregate under the auspices of Sr Eleanor. ;-) It's nice to have some one North of the Border on ;-) |

| [slm] Hi Katie :) I'm Eleanor, revert since a little more than a year ago. I come from Ireland and live in Germany. As the Brothers said, it's lovely to have you here. We have many sisters in Britain and also many reverts. If you post up a quick intro in the Bebsi Stand then you may get more responses coz that place is more often frequented than here. But the Brits will come in here too. | [slm] Katie welcome ! ;D ;D ;D I would advise that before you start on tasawuff you begin by joining islamic group that teaches aqeeda (islamic belief. there are some excellent discussions here on predestination etc) correct prayer etc, then a few courses on basic islamic law. tasawuff isn't really for beginners, be careful which teachers you choose. |
