There is hope ...

Just a story, or actually, a few incidents I saw that are encouraging.

Last week, we (hubby and I) were in Florida for a conference, and we managed to take a day off from the "festivities"  and head to Universal's new theme park, Islands of Adventure.  It was a weekday and near the end of school for a lot of students, and so there were lots of class groups there, probably making celebratory class trips.  In any case, we managed to find ourselves in line, several times, between small groups of kids, ranging in age from 8 to 12 or so.  The kids were being kids, laughing, joking, being loud, calling to other friends in line, whisparing to their friends, etc.  But what struck me most was how absolutely totally ethnically (and for all I know, religiously) mixed these groups were.  The kids didn't care what color their friends were, where their families came from, or how bad or good their English was.  It just reinforced to me again how prejudice and discrimination concerning ethnicity, religion, social status, or anything else, are things which are taught to kids, whether implicitly or explicitly.  And it also reminded me of how it could be.

Peace,
Dawn

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

The above reminded me of this Hadith:

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:

The mother of every person gives him birth according to his true nature. It is subsequently his parents who make him a Jew or a Christian or a Magian. Had his parents been Muslim he would have also remained a Muslim.

I am quite a roller coaster fan, and I do love water rides, and the park has all of the above -- some really, really good ones too.  But my favorite was "The Cat in the Hat" over in the "kiddie" area.  I loved the Dr. Suess books as a child (still do, truth be told ;)) and the ride through the story took me back a few years.  I even went on it twice.

Dawn, I remember when I was starting kindergarten and i made friends with a mexican kid.  He invited me to his house.  It was a 1 room house and he had about 6 or 8 brothers and sisters and they all slept in the same room and they lived right across from the railroad tracks.  As a little boy I thought this was the coolest thing in the world.  Everyone in the same room and when the trains came buy you could feel how much they rumbled and you could just go outside and there they were.  I have moved away , but I still go by there every chance I get and laugh to see how simple things were when you are 6 yrs old

Ha Ha! I thought I was OTT too!- I never felt comfortable reading Green Eggs and Ham to my son!

Reverts- I bet we could write a book about our non-muslim phobias!
We should coin a term for that! It would spread like wild fire.

hmmm..... things reverts don't like, are afraid to do, just seem weird...as we break away from the non-muslim world.... What would be a good name for that?

"I will NOT eat green eggs and ham, I will NOT eat them, Sam I am."

Disneyland is great, although I've never been on the Cat in the Hat ride.  My favourite is Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.

Julie :)
