Assalaamu'Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Hey Madinians!!

Long time since I have been here *or so it felt*... Haven't been feelin' good lately.... You'll never guess what happened to me a few days ago ::) I fractured my toe *the one on the left 3rd toe from my big one*.....

Well its happened becuz, I was going through the closet and when I pulled out a bag a heavy metal box came crashing out and where did it land???? My foot and do you know which foot?? The same one that I accidentaly stepped on a needle a few months ago  :-/ :-/

I know its not funny , I just feel sooooooo clumsy......... It hurt like @#$@$# *I didn't curse* I swear I didn't lolol  anyway, we went to the ER and found out I have a small fracture......

It has swelled and I have been doing the Ice Packs, elevating etc...... Alhumdulilah my husband has been helping so much  (cleaning and cooking etc..) and a friend comes over a lot to help out.........its a bit difficult having my son, but I just block off the hallway and keep him in the livingroom with me.... I was at first crawling around; now I use crutches somethimes I can just use the side of my hurt foot to walk on........The say it will take about 6 weeks to heal Allahu'Alim...

I am about to go eat some bean burritos made by hubby so I better sign off........ just thought I'd let you know I haven't dropped off the face of the earth......Alhumdulilah  :-/  ;D ...

take care
your sis n' Islaam

You broke your Toe? Arnt you also known as Hajreee?

Anyway, looks like you been hit with the Soccer World Cup Jinx! ;D

Next time you see a bag with a big metal box on it, try taking the box off first, then the bag  ;)

Are you walking around in a big plaster and crutches? You know, like a WALLY  :D

okay, confession time --
about a month ago i was walking into my fam room, and bam, the couch ran into me err--perhaps i ran into it? anyways, *sigh*, to make a long story short, bechari Somaira broke her toe in the process!! needless to say, since then my family has been having a great time with all of this. they keep mentioning how they're looking out for caution and stop signs to put up around the house..."caution, sofa up ahead"!!!
anyways, inshaAllah i hope ur toe gets better real quick, lay off of it, rest up!
take care,

I know what u mean about clumsiness.  If you ask my family they have a whole notebook full of stories to tell  :D :D
Also remember that pain expiates for our sins, SubhanAllah.

Alhamdullilah, you are getting better.

Why is it that I can take a portable saw to my hand, nearly cutting my finger off and be totally calm but when I stub my toe on the nightstand I want to cry like a little baby???

Notice, I did not say I did cry like a little baby....  :)

I know the scientific reason but still...........it's kinda funny.

Subhan'Allah, I hope you still have 10 fingers (you're creepy, you weren't even a bit afraid?)

I'm creepy?  HAHAHA, that is the first time anyone has ever described me that way.   :-/

Yeah, I still have all ten digits, Alhamdulillah.  Nah, I wasn't afraid.  Panicking during an emergency or accident is the worst thing you can do.  Panicking only makes the situation worse.  When these things happen it is in your best interest to remain calm and collected.

As for the scientific reason behind a near severing of a limb or appendage not being as painful as a stubbed toe....

Well first of all, your feet have a low pain threshold, meaning your feet are sensitive to pain.  Places like your head have a high pain threshold.  So when you stub your toe...your body makes sure you feel it.  I assume the reasoning behind this, from a physiological standpoint, is to prevent you from walking where you shouldn't.  Pain lets you know that something is wrong and since your feet are in constant contact with the ground, it makes sense that they serve as a sensory appendage, preventing you from walking into dangerous, possibly fatal areas.  This is just an assumption as I am not a doctor nor a specialist in human physiology.

Now when the body is damaged in a severe way....such as nearly cutting off a finger, the body increases the output of endorphins and testosterone.  These natural chemicals provide short term pain dampening and short term boosts in energy.  If you've ever experienced this feeling, you know it is quite amazing.

So when I nearly severed my finger, my body recognized a severe injury had occured and responded by pumping various chemicals throughout my entire system to desensitize me to pain and allow me to continue function.

I'm taking an educated guess when I say that when I stub my toe, it doesn't register with my brain that it is possibly a life threatening injury.  Therefore, it doesn't pump those natural pain killers throughout the body.
The low tolerance for pain in the feet combined with no natural pain killers during the toe stubbing makes for a very unhappy muslim man. :D

On a side note....women have a higher tolerance than men for long term pain.  Can you guess where this would be helpful?  ;)  That's right, childbirth.

But you women don't have a monopoly on high pain threshold. :)  Men have a higher tolerance than women for sudden bursts of pain.  Examples of sudden bursts of pain would be......battlefield injuries, animal bites (from hunting), and an upset wife slapping us on the behind. :D

Of course, these are just generalities.  There are always exceptions.

So there you have it, the scientific reasoning behind why stubbing my toe hurts more than nearly cuttinc off my finger.    :)
