Assalamu'alaikum :)

Well, since it'll be the new year like.. ermm.. next week

How about Zikral Hijrah?

It can be about hijrah, migration, changes....

I don't know whether this is repetitive... but we've had the TRee of Hope before, that talks about the critical events in our lives that caused us to change. We may want to have it again, as we have new members now.

Or, maybe, about being Agents of Change... how do we do it? HOw do we become one? What are the challenges that we face? Something like a support group for each other.

Maybe, we can talk about hijrah, it's significance, how do we apply now vis a vis current issues?

Or all of the above?

Or maybe something else... I don't know.. I've been trying to find a new pair of shoes since before last Ramadhan. Did not find one, anywhere in SIngapore... tried to find it in Malaysia, and yet, still can't find one... The ones that I like, doesn't have my size, and the ones that are my size are men's shoes...Maybe, we can talk abt that  ;D

Wassalam :-)

[slm] and a belated Eid Mubarak to everyone...And may the Hajj of all those pilgrims who went this year be accepted inshallah...

Subhanallah, this new board is quite different...May Allah grant us the good in it and protect us from the evils of it...

jannah, it seems like this question arises every year...sigh, if only my bro BrKhalid  ;-) were here, then he and I could again strongly object to the closing of the Road to Makkah Forum...how we hate to see it close!  :'(

if memory serves me right, didn't we change it last year to 1422 Hijrah Way or something? Not sure that it was very successful though...it later became the Tree of Hope I think...

not sure if we can make it about "burning" current events as the times of Hajj and Ramadan are naturally unparalelled in their general interest...and current events are discussed in other forums...

maybe make it into something discussing/reflecting on relevant topics rooted in the historical events of the lunar month we are in? for example, it became a tradition in the Muslim world to study the Seerah of Rasulallah [saw] in the month of Rabi' Awwal...maybe make the forum at that time talking about Seerah or something...and so on with the other months, for example maybe something focused more on the earlier Anbiyaa in Muharram...

it would be difficult though...the potential for a very random forum, and more importantly a lack of interest...

now a lack of interest is something that will never be a problem if one keeps the Road to Makkah forum around....;)

sorry, had to give it one more shot...this time of year is always a sad one.. :'(

at least keep it around until  ;-) comes back so that he can honor us with the annual jannah.org exclusive "Hajj 1422/2002" thread...

Regarding that quote about visiting Makkah..I've performed the 'Umrah, and maaaan! its so true! I'm dying to go back there...  :'(
Next year insha'Allah, I'm gonna bribe my parents to take me, if not Hajj, then 'Umrah at least  :)
And the diversity there is sooo amazing! subhanallah, especially in Ramadhan. Everyone is there for one reason,to worship the same Lord, from all parts of the world, subhanallah..
I didn't know anyone there, but I felt so attached to 'em, and now I'm missing them...  :'(

...sorry, I'm getting all emotional, gotta go before I finish all the kleenex's  and get in trouble  :P

Ma'assalaam
Zakira

ps. sorry,Jannah, for going totally off the topic  ;)

let's all have a  []  .. sit back and think about Barr's shoe problem  :P :D :D

Seriously.. I like the idea of a hijrah forum, as in changes that have happened, that we are going through or are expecting to see in the future..

It could be anything from.. finishing college
                                          having a baby
                                          getting married
                                           moving to a different country
                                            starting a new job

(but not necessarily in that order!!!!!)
It could be a place for reflections and discussions about these things, not just announcements. ( that's for the  [] Stand)

We could call it the Winds of Change..Hijrah 1423    or something like that...

Well since the forum is closing soon, might as well get some final fixes in with another old proverb:

The Kaaba said:

Those who see me weep,
and I weep for those who have yet to see me"

How about "The Madina Caravan" or simply "The Caravan"?

Since a caravan is usually on the move and also stops at certain places, the news headings can be used to describe the state of the caravan at any point. For example, the caravan can be on The Road to Madina, stopping at the Ramadan Courtyard, resting under the shade of the Tree of Hope,etc...

And with the commemoration of the hijrah, the caravan will be heading back home to Madina!

just a thought :)

That all sounds really great Barr  :-* The forum chould provide information in which an adaptation to novel circumstances can be effected while remaining loyal to the Quran and teachings of the Prophet (pbuh). (Ijtihad). We can ensure Islam is practised as it was in the time of the Prophet (pbuh) but retain its freshness and simplicity by facing the new changes, challenges and complexities of the 21st century like nucelar weapons, surrogate motherhood etc.

Or maybe we could do something that charters the lives of each Prophet of Islam. I'd love to read about the journey of Prophet Muhammed's (pbuh) life.

Or maybe a room that takes a  look at Islam through history.  Looking at  people, art, architecture, literature. History will help us understand why Islam/Muslims are the way they are today.

I like SISHANIA's suggestion , maybe we could change it into a forum where we only post the biogrophies  of the prophet's companions or the ta'baeen , just brush up on islamic history . We could call it

THE MADINAH GALLERY or
THE MADINAH MUSEUM or
DAR UL ISLAM or   (DOOR TO ISLAM)
ALBAAB UL KHAIR. (DOOR TO PEACE)

Br Khalid here again from Madinah with Br Haniff!!

Alhamdulillah we've had such a good tiime out here and Br Haniff certainly knows the ropes around these parts ;-)

As for the forum, its no surprise I'm with Br Abdul Basir on the issue but what can you do? Sometimes we have to lose something beloved to us, but InshaAllah it will return. ;-)
at least keep it around until  ;-) comes back so that he can honor us with the annual jannah.org exclusive "Hajj 1422/2002" thread...
We managed to read Sr Mariam's account of Hajj more fully today and subhanaAllah I think she must have covered all we had to say but inshaAllah I'll post something when I get back.

But in the meantime these cities of Makkah and Madinah are truly blessed and my heart wishes to stay even though I know tomorrow I must return. Here there is peace and tranquillity like no other and the knowledge of having to return to "dunya" saddens me.

But alas, as Br Haniff and I were talking last night, our constant struggle continues no matter where in the world we may live, and in that there is wisdom from Allah.

InshaAllah next time I post I'll be able to use my own username!! ;-).

I must really thank Br Haniff out here for all the help he's given to myself and my wife. There is no way I would be posting to you without his help. May Allah reward him for his efforts.

Wasalaam
Br Khalid
