WWTBAM: Q # THREE !!!! on: Apr 5th, 2002, 11:42pm
Assalam Alaykum Waramatullah,

The name of the is Masjid Quba

Masjid Quba is the Masjid that was found on Piety.
Masjid Quba is the first Masjid of Islam in Madinah.
The prophet(saw) used to go to Masjid Quba to pray every saturday walking and sometime riding. He (saw) prayed 2 rakaat in Masjid Quba

Evidence below:

1. Never stand you therein. Verily, the mosque whose foundation was laid from the first day on piety is more worthy that you stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and to purify themselves. And All?h loves those who make themselves clean and pure (i.e. who clean their private parts with dust [i.e. to be considered as soap) and water from urine and stools, after answering the call of nature]. (At-Tawbah 9:108 )

2.  This is a very long hadeeth... I am only quoting the relevant section inshaAllah

Narrated 'Aisha.....

The Jew could not help shouting at the top of his voice, "O you 'Arabs! Here is your great man whom you have been waiting for!" So all the Muslims rushed to their arms and received Allah's Apostle on the summit of Harra. The Prophet turned with them to the right and alighted at the quarters of Bani 'Amr bin 'Auf, and this was on Monday in the month of Rabi-ul-Awal. Abu Bakr stood up, receiving the people while Allah's Apostle sat down and kept silent. Some of the Ansar who came and had not seen Allah's Apostle before, began greeting Abu Bakr, but when the sunshine fell on Allah's Apostle and Abu Bakr came forward and shaded him with his sheet only then the people came to know Allah's Apostle. Allah's Apostle stayed with Bani 'Amr bin 'Auf for ten nights and established the mosque (mosque of Quba) which was founded on piety. Allah's Apostle prayed in it and then mounted his she-camel and proceeded on, accompanied by the people till his she-camel knelt down at (the place of) the Mosque of Allah's Apostle at Medina. Some Muslims used to pray there in those days, and that place was a yard for drying dates belonging to Suhail and Sahl, the orphan boys who were under the guardianship of 'Asad bin Zurara. When his she-camel knelt down, Allah's Apostle said, "This place, Allah willing, will be our abiding place." Allah's Apostle then called the two boys and told them to suggest a price for that yard so that he might take it as a mosque. The two boys said, "No, but we will give it as a gift, O Allah's Apostle!" Allah's Apostle then built a mosque there. The Prophet himself started carrying unburnt bricks for its building and while doing so, he was saying "This load is better than the load of Khaibar, for it is more pious in the Sight of Allah and purer and better rewardable." He was also saying, "O Allah! The actual reward is the reward in the Hereafter, so bestow Your Mercy on the Ansar and the Emigrants." Thus the Prophet recited (by way of proverb) the poem of some Muslim poet whose name is unknown to me.
...
(Saheeh Bukhari  5, Book 58, Number 245)

3. Narrated 'Abdullah bin Dinar:
Ibn 'Umar said, "The Prophet used to go to the Mosque of Quba every Saturday (sometimes) walking and (sometimes) riding." 'Abdullah (Ibn 'Umar) used to do the same.
(Saheeh Bukhari 2, Book 21, Number 284)

4.  Narrated Nafi':
Ibn 'Umar never offered the Duha prayer except on two occasions:
(1) Whenever he reached Mecca; and he always used to reach Mecca in the forenoon. He would perform Tawaf round the Ka'ba and then offer two Rakat at the rear of Maqam Ibrahim.
(2) Whenever he visited Quba, for he used to visit it every Saturday. When he entered the Mosque, he disliked to leave it without offering a prayer. Ibn 'Umar narrated that Allah's Apostle used to visit the Mosque of Quba (sometime) walking and (sometime) riding. And he (i.e. Ibn 'Umar) used to say, "I do only what my companions used to do and I don't forbid anybody to pray at any time during the day or night except that one should not intend to pray at sunrise or sunset."
(Saheeh Bukhari  2, Book 21, Number 283)

Another point I found but I could not verify the authenticity of the hadeeth, as I do not have the books of Ahmad, Nasai, Ibn Maja and Al-Hakim.
May be you can shed more light on it inshaAllah.
It is said that  a prayer in this Masjid Quab is equivalent to an Umra in rewards and blessings. Reference to this hadeeth is said to be found in [Ahmad, Nasai, Ibn Maja and Al-Hakim]

any prizes for being the fastest? bonus points?

My answer is:

Masjid Quba; First mosque of Islam. The Prophet [s] spent more than 20 nights here (after migrating) praying qasr while waiting for Imam Ali [a]. It is mentioned in the Qur'an as the mosque founded on piety and devoutness.

Hope it's right, Insha Allah

[slm]
The Masjid is Masjid Quba. (Though I have been there it took me some time to recognize from this picture)
It's the place where the first Masjid of Islam(in Madina) was built. Prophet   <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> laid foundation to this Masjid when he had stopped in Quba on way to Madina during hijrah. Prophet   <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> used to frequently(some say on saturdays) visit this masjid  and pray two rakahs here.
This place is also the third maktab of Madina. Sahaba used to come here to study Islam.
It is said(sorry no hadith proof handy with me, but it is said to be reported by Ahmed, Nasai, Ibn Majah and Al-Hakim) that a prayer in this Masjid is equivalent to an Umrah in rewards and blessings.
Abdullah bin Az-Zubair was born in Quba who was the first child born amongst the emigrants(muhajiroon) in the Islamic Land(i.e. Madina)
The masjid mentioned in verse 108 of chapter 9 is said to referring to this masjid.
And Allah knows best.

ANSWERS TO WWTBAM: Q # THREE !!!!

PART ONE

MASJID QUBA

MASJID QUBA

PART TWO

Significance of Masjid Quba:

The first Masjid built in the Islamic period which was founded on piety right from the first day, as Allah Almighty declares in Verse 108, Chapter 9, and whose foundation stone was laid down by Prophet Muhammad <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> himself.

Never set a foot there. Only a house of worship that from the very first day has been founded on piety is more worthy of you standing to pray there. In it are men who love to grow in purity, and Allah loves those who purify themselves.

PART THREE

Significance of Masjid Quba:

A prayer offered in this Masjid is equivalent to an Umra in rewards and blessings.

"Whoever makes ablution at home and goes and prays in the Mosque of Quba, he will have a reward like that of an Umrah." [Ahmad, Nasa'i, Ibn Majah]

And in another hadith, it is reported that,

"Ibn Umar (RA) used to come to Quba on every Saturday and he said: I saw Allah's Messenger (SAW) coming (to this place) on every Saturday." [Muslim]

Masjid Quba.
It's important for two reasons:  It's the first masjid that was ever built in Islaam, and the spot for it was chosen by the Prophet's (S) camel who was guided there by Allah.
And: two rak'aas (nalf) in Quba are equivalent to a Umrah.

question 3 on: Apr 2nd, 2002, 2:21pm
[slm]

The image is of Masjid Quba.

Significance:
Great historic importance: This is the first Masjid built in Islam, during the Prophet's   <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> migration to Madina.
-It's been mentioned in the Quran that this Masjid was built on the foundation of piety hence the name Masjidul Taqwa.

Great Reward in Praying at Masjid Quba : The Prophet   <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> said that the reward of praying two nafl rakaahs in Masjid Quba is like performing Umrah.
Any visitor to Madinah is highly recommended to stop on the way there, and offer the  two rakaahs.

The name of the masjid is the Quba' Mosque.
Historical significance: It was the first mosque to be built in Medina. Allah, the Exalted, praised this Mosque and those who maintained it. I believe that it is also referred to in Surat At-Tauba (#9) in verse #108.  Also, the Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) said, "Whoever performs ablution at home, then comes to Quba' Mosque to perform Prayer therein, will get the reward as for 'Umrah."

WWTBAM: Q # THREE !!!! on: Apr 3rd, 2002, 2:35pm
[slm]

The mosque in the pic is Masjid Quba in Medina.

Significant for being the first masjid in Islam, as setup by Rassollulah[saws].

Significant again for being mentioned in the Quran as the Mosque founded on piety and devoutness.

Significant third for being the mosque where 2 rakats nafl prayed in it are equal in blessings and reward to 1 umrah:
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to go there, riding or on foot, every Saturday and offer a two rak'ah prayer. He advised others to do the same, saying, "Whoever makes ablutions at home and then goes and prays in the Mosque of Quba, he will have a reward like that of an 'Umrah." This was reported by Ahmad, Nasa'i, Ibn Majah, and Al-Hakim, who says it has a sound chain of narration.

WWTBAM Q #3 on: Apr 3rd, 2002, 5:46pm
Assalaamu alaikum,

Name this masjid and the two main reasons why it is significant?

Masjid Quba, in Quba, near Madeenah.

1) This is the first masjid in the history of Islam whose foundation stone was laid down by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) himself on his migration to Madeenah. It is this masjid that is also called “Masjid al-Taqwa” as mentioned in the Qur’an (al-Tawbah 9:10 <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/cool.gif> .

2) A prayer in this masjid is equivalent to an Umrah in rewards and blessings.
The evidence for visiting the Mosque of Quba’ is the hadeeth narrated in al-Saheehayn from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allaah be pleased with him) who said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to come to Quba’ riding and walking.” According to another report: “and he would pray two rak’ahs there.” (narrated by al-Bukhaari and Muslim). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said, “Whoever purifies himself in his house then comes to the mosque of Quba’ and prays there, he will have a reward like that for ‘Umrah.” (Narrated by Ahmad, al-Nasaa’i, Ibn Maajah and al-Haakim. Al-Haakim classed it as saheeh and al-Dhahabi agreed with him. Also classed as saheeh by al-Alb

Significant because:

- it is referred to as "masjid at-taqwa" in the Qur’an (al-Tawbah 9:10 <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/cool.gif>

Name this masjid and the two main reasons why it is significant?

The masjid is masjid Quba' in Madinah Munawwarah.

It is significant in that it is the first masjid built in Medinah.  Allah, ta'aalaa praises the masjid is surah at-Tawbah aayah  108 [translation of the explanation of meaning] A mosque founded on righteousness from the first day is more worthy for you to stand in.  Within it are men who love to purify themselves; and Allah loves those who purify themselves.

Another way that it is significant is that the Prophet,   <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> used to visit it every Saturday [Bukhari] riding or walking.  He   <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> also praised the masjid and in a hadeeth related by Imam Ahmed said: "Whoever leaves his home, then comes to this [Quba' ] mosque to perform prayer therein, will get the reward of`Umrah."

That is the first reason why it's so significant. The second is that to offer two rak'at in this mosque carries the reward equal to performing an umrah!

Asalaamu Alaikum <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/brother.gif>

The Masjid is Masjid Qubaa in Madinah.

The following is from Br Abdul Basir's post from the old board on visiting Madinah:

The other place encouraged to visit in Madina is Masjid al-Quba. This was the first masjid built by Rasulallah <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> as he entered in Madina following the Hijrah, and is mentioned in the Qur’an:

Verily, the Masjid whose foundation was laid from the first day on Taqwa is more worthy that you stand therein (to pray). In it are men who love to clean and purify themselves. And Allah loves those who make themselves clean and pure. (At-Tawbah: 10 <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/cool.gif>

Rasulallah <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> has said regarding Masjid Qubaa, in the collections of Ahmad, Nasa’I, Ibn Majah and al-Hakim:

"Whoever makes ablutions at home and then goes and prays in the Mosque of Quba, he will have a reward like that of an 'Umrah."

Hence the two main reasons for its significance was that it was the first Masjid to be built in Islam and the great reward of an Umrah for praying there.

[slm] inshallah the masjid is masjid Quba. 1st reason why it is soo great is b/c The Prophet (peace be upon him) himself participated in the construction of this mosque, called it "My Mosque" and led prayers in it for years, basically it means it is the first masjid for muslims,
2nd reason is b/c. He has also said that a salah performed in the Prophet’s Mosque is better than a thousand salats in any other place except Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.and not only that but his grave is also in masjid al nabi. i hope this is right, for there r many reasons why it is important

Masjid Quba is the first Masjid of Islam in Madinah.
The prophet(saw) used to go to Masjid Quba to pray every saturday walking and sometime riding. He (saw) prayed 2 rakaat in Masjid Quba

Agh, I feel so stupid now!  I thought it was the Great Mosque of Cordoba!!

Alhamdulillah that I used my lifeline <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/smiley.gif>

My final answer:

a. Of course, the picture is that of Masjid Quba!

b. One significance of the Mosque is that it was the first Mosque built by Prophet Muhammad <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> .

c. Another significance is shown in a hadith of the Prophet <http://www.jannah.org/board/images/saw.gif> that praying 2 rak'ahs of nafl prayers in this Masjid is equivalent to having performed an Umrah!  Subhan Allah!

May Allah (SubHana Wa Ta`ala) give us all the opportunity visit this Mosque, and the other 3 Holy Mosques as well.  Ameen.

Wassalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.
