Love & beauty

Is it true the emotion love
Invokes visions of a flying dove
Showing beauty is all around
Looking like it's newfound.

I'm no poet
and I know it  ;D

Maybe I'l write a few more couplets after some input from the board.  :-)

Is beauty a pre-requisite for love?
Is the heart more inclined to love beautiful things?
Are the definitions of love and beauty inter-linked?
I want to know what love is and can it be restricted to a defined set of pre-requisites?
Or is love anarchic in the sense that there are no rules?

Take it from me,
What the height of ecstacy is!
'Tis not senses going loose
Nor Nightingale fainting
While in front is standing Rose.
'Tis not becoming blind to the star
When watching Sun from afar...

What is the end of love and knowledge?
Let the wiseheads learn from our Beloved Sage [saw]

Hush! Speak in low tone, O dear One!

The devil is plottng behind our back
To implant in us seeds of firaaq!

firaaq= separation,parting
sun and star= the brightness of SUN does not mean the non-existence of star.

nay, love is not restricted
it dwells not in the hearts of the constricted

it is something which grows
just like the stream of tears which flows

sis zara,

i didn't realize at first that you wanted answers to your questions.

since you do, i'd LOVE to answer them.......

Is beauty a pre-requisite for love?   on the contrary, love is a prerequisite for beauty.  if your heart is empty of the capacity for love, you can't see anything as it is, only as you are conditioned to see things.  without a heart open with love and for love your opinion that something is beautiful, whether it be a woman or a man or any other thing on this earth living or manmade, is void of meaning, and can be traced back to flaws in your own character, and even the words with which you describe such false and illusory beauty will reveal to those around you the true depth of the emptiness of your heart.

Is the heart more inclined to love beautiful things?  the heart is not more inclined to love beautiful things - when the heart is more inclined to love, it is capable of perceiving the beauty in things.

Are the definitions of love and beauty inter-linked?  they are not inter-linked in the sense that they would eqqally not exist without the other's presence.  so they are not completely interdependent definitions.  beauty is an intrinsic quality which can be best perceived in a system suffused with love, but were the love not to exist from a single perspective (yours), the beauty would not vanish from all other perspectives to which it was visible (those rich with love).
as for definition in a more literal sense, beauty is most roughly defined as a high degree of order, with the parameters of that order individually defined - of infinite variations.  what is beauty to one may not fall within the parameters of beauty to another, but the definition of that beauty in one's own life (the type of order one perceives when perceiving that beauty) is expressible in terms comprehensible to all.
love is most roughly defined as a recognition of life, a human connection to the rest of the world.

I want to know what love is and can it be restricted to a defined set of pre-requisites?  love is always the same, but it has no restrictions, and it is its own pre-requisite.  without the experience of love in your heart, you are incapable of loving.  definition most crude ^ above.

Or is love anarchic in the sense that there are no rules?  love is not anarchic, it is order-producing.  it is anti-entropic.  love will bring you to your senses at the same time you may feel that your senses have left you.  but you haven't lost them, they have just gone out of your reach and will wait there for you to come to them.

Love, beauty... we silly humans think these are the ultimate truths in life.

The only truth is HE and the deeds done in His Pleasure. And that includes Loving and Hating for His sake.

Love, like any other human emotion, rises and fades, especially one that is attached to beauty  ;) . There is nothing so philosophical abt it.

Rabb hai haqeqat
sab hai kahaani
Allahu baaqi
min kulli faani

Rabb alone is truth
the rest are a story
Allah remains
When everything is destroyed.

What poets like Rumi call love is not to be mistaken for the love related with beauty. It is everything to do with His Love or Love for His Pleasure. And as Jaihoon like to hypothesize, the institution of marriage, for eg:, is held sacred in Islam becoz it is a medium for two individuals of oppsoite sex to share love for His Sake, not just for themselves.

is that suffice?  ;)

Lord of Beauty,
Lord of Grace

Enter my soul like one who enters a garden in bloom.
One glance from you and stones turn to rubies.
One hint from you and every goal is within reach.
Come, come, you are the life and salvation of man.
Come, come, you are the eye and light of Joseph.
Touch my head for your touch removes the darkness of the body.
Come, come, for you bestow beauty and grace.
Come, come, for you are the cure of a thousand ills.
Come, come, even though you have never left –
come and hear some poetry.
Sit in the place of my soul, for you are a thousand souls of mine.
Begone with your cares and your ancient longings –
you are the Beloved! If the King did not sit on the throne
of this world There would be darkness and confusion.
You are joyous and alive by His breath.
You move by the power of His love.
Now, like an artist, you create. Now, like a servant, you sweep the floor.
Everything you touch will reach its goal and fly with the wings of an angel
. . . But wings cannot carry you to God.
Like the mule that carried the Prophet,
Only love can carry you there

Love I  have drank
But intoxicate I am not
Love I have seen
But  blind in It I am not
Love I have felt
But its captive I am not
Love I have  a spoke
But its Echo I am not
Love I have prayed
But its answer I am not
I am but a stranger it Its lands
For It have allure my sense
For I am unveil in  shades
Love is my worship
For I am its Slave.

Love Any one only for the sake of Allah
Hate Any one only for the sake of Allah
One should Love Allah most and next Prophet Muhammad SAW and then rest of the world.

The poetry is but on sufi side but hope it does not hinder any one’s feeling and thoughts and takes when away from the Right Path of Allah  for He is Love - inspired by Rabia Al Basari
