welcome to the board :)

I think some people pronounce "p" and "b" , and "s" as "z" so the word "Pepsi" gets pronounced as "Bebzi".

Park the car in the parking lot = Bark the car in the barking lot ...etc., etc.,

An introduction eh?

Hmm......I'm a twenty four year old muslim man currently living in the U.S.  I was introduced to Islam while serving in the U.S. army during a six month peacekeeping mission in Kosova.  I'm out of the military now and I'm getting ready to go to a University.

I'm a relatively new muslim convert/revert (whichever term you prefer).  Alhamdullilah, I took the Shahada last summer but haven't really been a part of the community until the last month or so.

Did I forget anything?

Dirt? Why the name?

"I'm a twenty four year old muslim man currently living in the U.S.  I was introduced to Islam while serving in the U.S. army during a six month peacekeeping mission in Kosova."

Whats the situation thier like? And id you ever come across the Arab and foreign mujahideen?

"Did I forget anything?"

It has been over a year since I was in Kosova.  I'm not really sure what the situation is like now.  No, I've never come across a mujahadeen.  Tyson.....he is a freak show.

As far as my name.....this is actually kind of funny in a way.  My english name means tall hill, steep hill, or something like that.  Well when I was thinking of a name for this board I thought, hmm.....hill doesn't sound inspiring enough.  So then I thought about using the word mountain.  After all, the word mountain invokes images of strength and solidarity.  But then I thought if I used that name it would be arrogant so I chose something a little more humble.  And thus, my screen name dirt was born.

Of course, sharing this info with you probably defeats the purpose of coming up with such a name.  I just thought it was funny and had to tell someone. :D

I always feel very inspired when I hear of a revert to Islaam. This site is very cool  8) and very informative  :).

Out of interest, if you don't mind, what was it that sparked your initial interest in Islaam?

Well, I was raised in a christian background.  But certain things in christianity always bothered me.  Things like the trinity for example.  I remember when I was very young, maybe eight years old, I asked my mother why we had to pray to a man (Jesus, PBUH). Why couldn't I pray to God?  If God was the most powerful then He is who we should pray to right?  My mother could not answer me in any meaningful way, neither could anyone else for many, many years.  So from the time I was young up until I converted to Islam....I always prayed to God alone, even though I believed in Jesus (PBUH), I never felt right praying to him.

So these unanswerable questions led me on what I call a search for truth.  I decided that I needed answers to my questions but up until I met a muslim interpreter in Kosova, I really hadn't found any.

This is kinda funny actually.  I remember the first time I heard about Islam.  My squad was guarding a Serbian catholic church!  Talk about irony......

Anyway, our interpreter was performing wudu and I thought to myself, man, how inconvenient.....that must suck to pour water all over yourself all the time. :D  After performing wudu he went outside to pray.  When he came back in....I asked him to tell me about his faith.  He was a tall, imposing man.  But he was very soft spoken and humble.  His devotion intrigued me and we went outside to discuss Islam.

I first learned about Islam while sitting on a bench, in full combat gear (weapon, body armor, etc.)  under the shadow of a catholic bell tower.....

Our discussion intrigued me so much that I had to learn more.  When we returned to the outpost, he gave me some Islamic literature to study.  I studied this literature in our squad tent late at night while everyone was asleep.  It was just me and my little flashlight, reading about Islam and I am not ashamed to admit that I wept that night.  For the first time in my life I realized that I had found what I was looking for.

I took Shahada five months later.
