Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@jannah.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

salam,

that internal server error usually means that either 1. someone broke the board. (usually me and 7 comes running up, "U broke the board!, U broke the board!" and i was probably running some crazy script or trying to fix/write some perl when i dont know perl, so then i go fix it and it's ok.) or 2. there is heavy load on the board or 3. there is something wrong with the backbone internet connection to jannah.org or 4 Allahu alam...

your best bet is just to wait it out... don't post anything or if you try to make sure you have it saved somewhere else.. btw don't send email to webmaster@ whatever... that's just the script automatic output.. there's no such email...

For what it's worth, I am still getting these errors too, 9 hours after mwiska posted.

ok, don't know what jannah did......tch tch tch  :)......but even though the errors are now semi-permanent, i found a way around them.  (oh, probably everyone else knew this long ago, but...i'm just trying to make things easy for those of us who need a little help sometimes.......)

i have to do this all the time to get into bebzi or to use madina message anyway:

when you get the error, go "back" to the page you were on, and "forward" - the path was apparently wrong, and this tricks the signal onto the right path.  for really resistant paths, like into bebzi, you might need a couple of backs and forwards......

hope this helps anyone who was about to give up.....

This error mostly occurs when cgi doesn't finish execution successfully. You can find the exact error in Apache error log.

If you have enough resources left ie memory, disk space and CPU is not peaking at around 100% utilization you can increase the max number of files open. Let me know if you want to know how to do it.

Is it possible that some files are left open and weren't closed properly?  Maybe those processes need to be killed?

If you think there are too many apache processes then you can safely restart apache without having to bother killing each process. You can also edit configuration to allow the maximum number of apache threads active. Anyways at the moment there are not too many users active, only 2 users and 2 guests and I still get the internal server messages.

[slm],

Could it be that the box needs to be rebooted ???.  If its nix then usually if you do the process id and kill it then it should work..well it does at work.
If its Win X do you think you have a memory leak ????

Hmmm, may Allah keep the techies alive...!

Keep us informed...

Yup apparently it got worse and worse until all you saw was that error.  The bro that runs the webhost checked it out and said that it only : Required a stop and restart of the web server.
so alhamdulillah!!

Assalaamu alaikum,

I am curious, did this problem had anything to do with the quran pop-up? Because it started after midnight and next midnight it got worse. Maybe the server spawned new processes for the pop-ups that never got killed (or maybe copies of the file that never got closed), so with days the problem got worse? Just wondering...

But alhamdulillah, it is working again.

Wasalaam.

p.s.  um, sis jannah, i know that's an automatic error message - i assumed a message addressed that way was sort of "code" to you of the occurrence of only particular types of unusual events....

p.p.s.  am SO surprised how much i missed this place and all of you.......:)

Asim that's interesting...I don't know if it's that. I noticed in the logs that around that time people were sending around emails with the callig hadiths. So each time someone opened that email it was hitting the server 20 times and that email was being sent to hundreds and hundreds of people!  So I took that stuff offline. It could also be something that has nothing to do with jannah.org. There are a number of other websites hosted on this server too..
