hey did anybody listen to window on islam yesterday?  it was great!

hee heee ok ok that sounded like a plug, but, really, i have a real question.

so, um yesterday, for anyone who missed it but might know the answer to this, was a hamza yusuf lecture on the mutual loss and gain, the day on which the non-believers will feel cheated (al taghabun).  actually i had a number of questions, but i've forgotten most of them.....

here's what i want someone to explain:
at some point, i can't even remember the context, he said that troublesome thoughts that won't leave you are nafs while troublesome  thoughts that vary are from shaitan.  is this just his own opinion?  i thought i had read somewhere that shaitan will keep whispering the same thought over and over, until you give in.  who knows about this?  can anyone give me a good explanation?

thanks, mwishka

thats really interesting.. i never thought about it like that.. the same bad throughts and temptations and weaknesses we have do seem to be regular in us.. perhaps shaitan(the devil) knows better and tries to vary his tactics every now and then...

mwishka, i would say ask shaykh mokhtar this question next time you see him ... and then let us all know what he said

Assalamu alaikum,
I remember my dad telling me this very same thing a long time ago: your nafs just has one way of trying to get you to do something so it's like you keep thinking the same thing over and over.  But the shaytan comes to you from all directions except from above, meaning that if one thing doesn't work he'll try another, so it might be the same thing but disguised to make it look like somehting else.

abu hamza, good idea!  though i know he'll give me time whenever i ask, i tend to try to ask the "easier" questions of other people.  i hadn't even thought of asking him this.  he'll probably give me an answer without even blinking..... ;)   but.......if i ask mokhtar all my questions, i'll be denying you all your "scholarly exercise" in trying to come up with answers..... :D
