Islamic Virtues of Chracter

CONTENTMENT :: Wealth is not in riches but in contentment [Hadith Bukhari & Muslim]

GENTLENESS :: Gentleness adorns everything, and its absence makes everything defective. [Hadith Muslim]

MODERATION :: The most pleasing to Allah of all actions is that which is done continuously though it may be small. [Hadith Bukhari & Muslim]

MODESTY :: Every religion has a distinctive quality, and the distinctive quality of Islam is modesty. [Hadith Bayhaqi, Ibn Majah...]

PATIENCE :: Whatever trouble, illness, anxiety, grief, pain or sorrow afflicts a Muslim - even if it is the pricking of a thorn - Allah removes in its place some of his/her sins. [Hadith Bukhari & Muslim]

GENEROSITY :: A generous person is close to Allah, close to Paradise, close to people and far away from Hell. A miser is far from Allah, far from Paradise, far from people and close to Hell. An ordinary, generous person is dearer to Allah than a religious miser. [Hadith Tirmidhi]

SELF-RESTRAINT :: Ability to act in a calm and composed manner is [a blessing] from Allah, whereas acting in haste is following Shaitan. [Hadith Tirmidhi]

TRUST IN ALLAH :: Surely I know a verse which, if people would have followed it, would have sufficed for them concenring everything [in life]: "For those who fear Allah, He provides a way out for them [for everything, and] He also provides them provisions from [sources] that they could never have imagined." [Hadith Ahmad & Ibn Majah, Quran 65:2-3]

TRUTHFULLNESS :: Truth guides one to virtue, and virtue guides one to Paradise; a person persists in telling the truth until he is named truthful in the sight of Allah. Lying leads to vice, and vice leads to the Hellfire; a person continues lying until he is named a liar in the sight of Allah. [Hadith Bukhari & Muslim]

REPENTANCE

The one who repents for a sin is like the one who has not committed a sin. [Hadith]
Whoever adheres to seeking Allah's forgiveness will be one for whom Allah will create a way out of every difficulty, for whom Allah will relieve from every anxiety and for whom Allah will supply provisions from sources that s/he could never imagine.  [Hadith]
Happy is the one who will find in his/her record on the Day of Judgement much seeking of Allah's forgiveness. [Hadith]
Allah accepts the repentance of a person so long as s/he is not at the point of death. [Hadith]
Allah turns in mercy to the one who turns to Him in repentance. [Hadith]
" In fact, Allah loves those who turn unto Him (seeking His forgiveness). "  Quran 2:222

Major Sins

BACKBITING: "Do not speak ill of each other behind each other's backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? No, you would abhor it." Quran 49:12

INTOXICANTS: Every food or drink that intoxicates or excites has been prohibited for you. [Hadith]

FALSE WITNESS: "Those who sell the faith they owe to Allah and their own oaths for a small price will have no portion in the Hereafter..." Quran3:77

ADULTERY: If someone could give me the assurance about his tongue and private parts, I would give him the assurance of Paradise. [Hadith]

LYING: It is sufficient as a lie for a person to speak about everything he hears [without being certain of its verity.] [Hadith]

SUICIDE: He who kills himself with a metal weapon will be in the Hellfire with that weapon in his hand thrusting it into his stomach forever......and each of them will live forever in their respective states. [Hadith]

INNOVATIONS IN DEEN: Those of you who survive me will witness much contention. At that time, hold fast to my sunnah and that of my rightly guided caliphs; and beware of all innovations [in Deen], for every innovation is an error. [Hadith]

MAJOR SINS: Among the major sins are associating anything with Allah, disobedience to parents, murder and giving false evidence. [Hadith]

MAJOR SINS: Avoid 7 harmful things: setting up partners with Allah, sorcery, unlawfully killing a soul, involving yourself in usury, exploiting the property of an orphan, keeping behind on the day of jihad, and slandering chaste and innocent believing women. [Hadith]
Give up what appears doubtful to you, for what does not appear doubtful; [remember] truth is peace of mind, and falsehood is doubt. [Hadith]

Mutual Obligations of Believers:

RESPECTING ELDERS AND TEACHERS: It is part of glorifying Allah that you show respect to a gray-haired Muslim and also to one who teaches the Qur'an. [Hadith]

HELPING FELLOW MUSLIMS: Whoever clothes a naked Muslim will be clothed by Allah with the green robes of Paradise; whoever feeds a hungry Muslim will be fed by Allah from the fruits of Paradise; and whoever gives drink to a thirsty Muslim will be given drink by Allah from the fountain [of Paradise]. [Hadith]

MUTUAL OBLIGATIONS OF BELIEVERS: The believer is [like] a mirror to another believer; they removes his/her sufferings and also protects him/her in their absence. [Hadith]

MUTUAL OBLIGATIONS OF BELIEVERS: None of you has iman unless s/he loves for their [Muslim] brother [sister] what s/he loves for themself. [Hadith]

HELPING WIDOWS AND THE POOR: The one who looks after the needs of the widow and the poor is like a warrior fighting in the cause of Allah or like a person who fasts during the day and prays throughout the night. [HADITH]

VISITING THE SICK: When a Muslim visits their Muslim brother [sister] who is sick, they certainly gather the fruits of Paradise until they return. [Hadith]

HONORING THE GUEST: The one who believes in Allah and the Last Day should honor their guest according to their [the guest's] rights?. [Hadith]

SHAKING HANDS AND EXCHANGING GIFTS: If you shake hands with each other, dislike will disappear, and if you give each other gifts, malice will disappear. [Hadith]

SITTING TOGETHER: Whenver there are three people together, no two should talk, leaving the third alone, since this may grieve him/her. [Hadith]

MEETING WITH A SMILE: Every good deed of a Muslim is charity; and meeting your brother [sister] with a smiling face is one of the good deeds. [Hadith]

CONCEALING FAULTS: The one who conceals the faults of a Muslim will have their faults concealed by Allah on the Day of Judgement.

SEVERING RELATIONS: It is not permitted for two Muslims who have had a dispute to keep away from each other for more than three days. The better of the two is the one who is first to greet the other. [Hadith]

FRIENDSHIP: A person inevitably follows the faith of their friends; therefore, be careful in choosing your friends. [Hadith]

REFRAINING FROM KILLING: "If one kills a believer intentionally, their recompense is Hell - to abide therein forever?" [Quran 4:93]

RIGHTS OF NEIGHBORS: Jibreel continued exhorting me about the rights of neighbors so much so that I thought he might include them in the category of heirs. [Hadith]

REGARD TOWARD OLD AND YOUNG: The one who is not kind to our young ones, does not show respect to our elders, does not invite others to virtue and does not stop others from evil is not one of us. [Hadith]
