| Yemenis boycott American goods Jun 04, 2002 Riyadh- Shopkeepers in various areas in the Yemeni capital have affirmed that citizens' consumption of American goods was dwindling while demand on Gulf products was growing, according to Saudi daily 'Al-Watan'. The paper added that the merchants had thus refrained from displaying American goods on their shelves and resorted instead to Gulf products. The shop owners said that the citizens did not wish to see American products being displayed on their shelves. The popular anti-normalization committee's activities in that matter played a significant role in endorsing the boycott. Saudi products topped the list of favorite goods to replace the American ones especially those that provided an alternative for the American products. The Yemeni committee officials believed that Saudi and Gulf products could compensate for absence of American produce. This way we will support our Muslim owned businesses and stop heavily supporting some of these American owned companies...There are many good alternatives to the American products...We need reduce/stop going to Giant and buying Perdue Chicken...Instead we need to go to the local Halal Meat market and buy Halal Meat...We need to start supporting our Muslim owned businesses, so that InshaAllah they will turn around and support our communities... |
